Chapter Four: Sunday

Sunday

(Late Sunday morning, Kairo is sitting on the floor of the rehearsal room at Reigns, going over some paper work with some music playing over the speakers when she notices someone hovering near the door)

Kairo: (turning the music down) Kaleb? What are you doing down here?

Kaleb: I was gonna go work on some songs. I saw your car and thought I'd come see my big sister. You busy?

Kairo: (putting her notebook aside) not right now. What's up?

(Kaleb comes out and sits on the edge of the stage)

Kaleb: hey, thanks for helping me out the other night.

Kairo: no problem. Besides, what are big sisters for? But what's up? You've never this mellow.

Kaleb: yeah, I just wanted to check on you. I caught Damian eyeing at the club Friday night.

Kairo: oh.

Kaleb: he was eyeing you and Dreux real hard. What's up with that?

Kairo: (sighing) nothing. Nothing is going on Kaleb. Damian works for Dad so by default, he works for us, which means, unfortunately he'll be hanging around.

Kaleb: what happened with that anyway? He kinda just stopped coming to the house.

(Kairo cocks her head and looks at her brother for a few minutes)

Kairo: you were kinda young when he took off. He went to law school and decided it wouldn't be worth it for us to stay together (shrugging her shoulders). Now it's like I can't get him to stay away.

Kaleb: has Dreux met him?

Kairo: actually, they have met. Why you so invested? You're inquisitive today.

Kaleb: no reason. Just wondering. (Standing up and checking his watch) look, I gotta get down up to my studio and finish this song before I head out to get ready for dinner.

(Kaleb gets up and heads for door. Kairo, watches her brother, feeling a little bad about jumping down his throat)

Kairo: Kaleb, I...

Kaleb: (turning to face his sister) it's cool, Kai. I gotta go. I'll see you at dinner.

(Kaleb leaves the room and heads off to the recording wing. Kairo sits back down on the floor and continues her paperwork, turning the music back up. A few minutes later, her cellphone rings)

Kairo: (turning the music down; answering the phone) hello?

Kiari: hey, Kairo!

Kairo: Kiari?

Kiari: hey girl!

Kairo: what's up?

Kiari: okay, so I have some news and I wanted to tell you first before you it popped on your newsfeed.

Kairo: okay, what's up?

Kiari: Torhi proposed.

Kairo: I'm sorry?

Kiari: I'm getting married.

Kairo: really, Ki? That's amazing! Details please!

Kiari: (laughing) okay. Well my brother was doing a video shoot for his song "My Place"...

Kairo: love that song.

Kiari: he invited all the Tics and their girls to be in it. So Torhi and I were filming our scenes towards the end of the song. I had to some shots by myself and I noticed everyone kinda stopping and starring a little more than usual. As the hook began to play over the speakers, I hear Torhi behind me, saying the words along with the song. Halfway through, he turns me to face him and starts saying them to me and then he drops to one knee after he says "You make me life so convenient for me" and asks me to marry him.
