Saturday

(Late Saturday morning at Villa Flora, Hazel is enjoying a few minutes of quiet time reading a novel in the family room with a cup of tea when Bella emerges in the doorway, clearing her throat)

Bella: good morning Mrs. Reigns.

Hazel: (looking up; resting her book down) oh...good morning, Bella.

Bella: I hate to interrupt your book, but you have a visitor.

Hazel: oh? (Checking her watch) this early? On a Saturday?

Bella: yes ma'am. Should I show them in...

Hazel: oh. Yes, sure.

(Bella nods her head before backing out of the room. She returns shortly with a gentleman in tow)

Bella: Mrs. Reigns...Mr. Avery.

(Hazel looks up and lays eyes on Karlos)

Hazel: (standing up) ah...Bella, where is my husband?

Bella: I believe he's wrapping up a call in his office.

Hazel: would you let him know that I'd like to see him...now.

Bella: yes ma'am. Can I get you a drink, Mr. Avery?

Hazel: that won't be necessary, Bella.

(Bella nods her head before leaving the room)

Hazel: you really have lost your rabbid-ass mind...coming to my house.

Karlos: it's been three days, Hazel. Have you made a decision about Kristopher yet?

Hazel: I don't take ultimatums very well, Karlos.

Karlos: not an ultimatum Hazel. I just want what belongs to me.

Hazel: my son isn't "something" that belongs to you. And if you really felt that you woulda had your ass on my doorstep 30-something-years ago. Now coming around now and making demands on me.

Karlos: that's how you feel? That's your decision?

Hazel: you're damn right. There's nothing left to say on the matter.

Karlos: okay, Hazel.

(Hazel folds her arms defiantly as she holds a stand-ff with Karlos. A few beats later, Brian walks in holding his portfolio)

Brian: Haze, Bella said you wanted to see me.

(Brian looks up, seeing and then recognizing Karlos)

Brian: Karlos? Karlos Avery is that you?

Karlos: how you doing, Brian?

(The men shake hands and give each other a brotherly hug. Brian walks over and gives his wife a kiss)

Brian: I didn't realize we were having company this morning. I would have pushed our appointment back.

Hazel: neither did it. Karlos just showed up.

Brian: really? What brings you by, Karlos?

Karlos: oh, I was in the neighborhood. Thought I'd come see some old friends.

Brian: so what have you been up to?

Karlos: well I own my architectural firm down town.

Brian: that's good.

Karlos: but you know, it's funny that I would see you today. I have been wanting to sit down with you for some time, Brian.

Brian: really?
