Rafe has driven us to the boardwalk. There are little carnival games set up, some shops, and an ice cream parlor.
He ends up winning me a small stuffed monkey at the ring toss and we stop in and get milkshakes before going down to the beach.
We set our stuff down in the sand and slide off our shoes so that we can go walk with our bare feet along the water.
Rafe suddenly picks me up and acts like he is going to throw me into the water. I wrap my arms around his neck and hold on for dear life, 'you better not' I manage to say inbetween laughs.
He places me back down and stands in front me. We both have the biggest smiles on our face. Our eyes meet and I feel my heart skip a beat. His hands land on my waist and my arms wrap back around his neck. He pulls me in and our lips touch, sending sparks through my body. The kiss deepens and intensifies, I finally pull away.
I nuzzle my face into his chest to hide my blush, he wraps his arms around the small of my back. "You're making it hard to stay just friends." I mumble into his chest.
I look up at him and see his cheesy grin. "Why can't we be more than friends?" He questions.
The smile on my face fades and I pull away from him. "You could do so much better than some Pogue from the cut."
"Can we just put the whole Pogue versus Kook thing aside for a second." He says with a sigh. "I really like you, Liv. I can't deny those feelings."
I look down and shake my head shyly.
"What's holding you back?"
"My last relationship was awful." A wave of emotions wash over me at the thought. "Marcus, my ex, he was manipulative and controlling and cheated on me countless times..." Memories that I never want to relive start flooding back.
Rafe pulls me back into his chest. "I would never hurt you."
I stay there in his arms, the scent of the cologne on his shirt comforts me. I realize that I truly do have feelings for Rafe, feelings that I can't deny either.
I pull away from his chest, stand on my tip toes and kiss him softly. "Promise not to break my heart, Rafe Cameron?"
His eyes light up. "I promise you, Olivia Routledge, that I won't break your heart." He kisses me again. "Let me take you out on a real date."
"Okay." I smile.
