"Glad to see you two made up." John B says as he walks out of his bedroom and into the kitchen.
After JJ and I's discussion earlier we decided to sprawl out on the pull out in the living room and watch some movies. There is a big bowl of popcorn and two unopened beers in between us. I hear John B start to rummage through the cabinets, no doubt looking for a late night snack. Just as he pulls out a nearly empty bag of potato chips there is a knock at the door. Neither JJ or I move from our spots, not wanting to miss anything in our movie.
"Don't worry asshats, I got it." John B says sarcastically as he walks from the kitchen to the living room to see who is knocking.
"Is Liv here?" I hear a familiar raspy voice in the doorway.
Just as I turn around he sees me laying in the living room. "Rafe?" I ask as I get up and walk past my brother. I gesture towards the porch and step outside to join him so we can have a moment alone. "Everything okay?"
"Look I thought I could move past it, but I don't know if I can."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean I don't mind you and JJ being friends, if that's truly all it is, but I don't know if I can accept you guys living together."
"Rafe-" He cuts me off.
"Like I'm all the way on the other side of the island and he is just in the next room over."
"Look I talked to JJ today. I told him that you are the one that makes me happy and you are the one I want to be with..." I confess to him, putting emphasis on the 'you'. "You have nothing to worry about anymore, I promise."
"I don't think it's that simple."
"Rafe, he lives here. Do you expect me to kick him out? I'm not going to do that."
"So come live with me." He says quickly.
"What?" I ask, confused and a little taken aback.
"There's this 3 bedroom house for sale in figure 8. It's right on the shore, has a pool, a balcony. I'm gonna buy it."
"Well that's great but I can't live with you."
"Why not?"
"Because I can't just leave the boys."
"Look your boys are gonna have to grow up at some point, right? I mean they can learn to do their own laundry and clean up after themselves."
"That's not just it, Rafe!" I feel myself getting annoyed at his lack of understanding of our situation. "There are bills to pay. I mean do you think I work 2 jobs just for fun?"
"I'm sure we could figure something out."
I just stare at him with wide eyes, speechless.
"Look I don't want to cause an argument. Just think about it, yeah?"
I shake my head yes, still in shock at his suggestion. He hugs me goodbye and walks off the porch and climbs into his truck, driving away. I stand in my spot on the porch for a few moments, thinking about what he said. I mean he's crazy, right?
I finally walk back inside and John B is now laying in my previous spot next to JJ. Only now their full attention is on me and not the movie.
"So you're moving in with Rafe?" John B smirks before throwing a piece of popcorn in him mouth.
"You guys were eavesdropping?"
They both shrug their shoulders. I roll my eyes and squeeze back onto the pullout in between them. They turn their attention back to the tv, getting the hint that I want to drop the subject. But for the rest of the movie I find myself not being able to focus. My mind keeps replaying the conversation I've just had. I love Rafe and I would do anything for him, but I can't just pack up my life and move in with him, even if it is just to the other side of the island.
