Yeah, I used Caine because she was the best person I could come up with.  She'll be straying from character a bit to fit the part.  Hope you don't mind.

◇◇◇◇◇◇

A rooster cawed as Varian opened the door to the cottage he lived in.  He took a deep breath as he walked down the stairs.

Varian: Little town
It’s a quiet village
Ev’ry day like the one before
Little town
Full of little people
Waking up to say...

The bell tolled right on time and acted as the cue for the day to begin.

Town Folk: Bonjour!
Bonjour!
Bonjour!
Bonjour!
Bonjour!

Varian grinned as he walked in the streets, slightly swinging the basket in his hand.

Varian: There goes the baker
with his tray like always
The same old bread
and rolls to sell

He nodded Monty as he grabbed some bread and paid the man.  The old man gave him a warm smile.  The nineteen year old waved before continuing his way.

Every morning
just the same
Since the morning
that we came
To this poor
provincial town

"Good morning, Varian!"

"Good morning, Monsieur.  Have you lost something again?"

"Well, I believe I have.  The problem is, I can’t remember what!"

Varian chuckled.

"Oh, well, I’m sure it will come to me," the man continued.  "Where are you off to?"

"To return this book to Xavier," he answered.  "It’s about the Legend of the Cheating Willow."

"Sounds boring."

Varian laughed as he waved.

Town folk: Look there he goes
That boy is strange
No question

The teen blocked out the gossip.  The people didn't even bother to check if he was still in earshot or not.  It wasn't something he didn't already know, so it didn't matter.  At least, he supposed.

Dazed and distracted
Can’t you tell?

He leapt across the stepping stones in the man made lake to wash laundry.  Then he walked on a ledge to stay out of the way of the people doing laundry.

Never part of any crowd
’Cause his head’s
Up on some cloud
No denying
He’s a funny guy, that boy

"Bonjour, good day, how is your family?"  A man asked a woman as Varian was walking past.

"Bonjour, good day, how is your wife?"  She glanced towards her husband, who immediately made himself present.

"Idiot," Varian muttered under his breath and turned his attention elsewhere.

"I need six eggs!"

"That’s too expensive!"

People were talking above each other, and it was all too familiar.  He was grateful to come to Xavier's workshop.

Varian:There must be more
than this provincial life

"Ah, if it isn’t the only bookworm in town."  The man smiled.  "So, where did you run off to this week?"

"Two cities in Northern Nersidia. I didn’t want to come back! Have you got any new places to go?"

"I’m afraid not. But you may reread any of the old ones that you’d like," the blacksmith offered.

"Thank you.  Your library makes our small corner of the world feel big."

"Have a good day, Varian."

"You too."  The teen walked out, immediately greeted with the people's chatter and hustle, bustle once again.

Town Folk: Look, there he goes
The boy is so peculiar
I wonder
if he’s feeling well
With a dreamy far off look
And his nose stuck in a book
What a puzzle to the rest of us is he

Varian opened the book, turning the pages.  It was his personal favorite Flynn Rider book.  He aids a young woman and they meet a stranger on the road who turns out to be a runaway prince, hiding from the people who took over his kingdom.

Oh! Isn’t this amazing?
It’s my favorite part
because you’ll see
Here’s where
She meets Prince Charming
But she won’t discover
that it’s him
’Til chapter three

A woman snorted as he walked by.  He had stepped in mud and rolled his eyes in annoyance.

Woman: Now it’s no wonder
That his name means changing
His moods have
got no parallel

Her daughter nodded.

Girl: But behind that fair façade
I’m afraid he’s rather odd

Town folk: Very different
from the rest of us
He’s nothing
like the rest of us
Yes, different
from the rest of us is he

"Look, there he is, Dwayne. My answer to everything.  Varian is the smartest person I've met.  Not too bad looking either," Caine began.

"But she’s so well-read, and you’re so... athletically inclined?" Dwayne pointed out.

"I know, you dult," she huffed. "Varian can be more argumentative than what's good for him though..."

"Exactly! Who needs him when you’ve got us!"

"That might be my reasoning," Caine retorted.  "Come on, let's move."

Caine: Right from the moment
When I met him, saw him
I said he's smarter
Than I'd tell
Here in town there’s only he
Who is perfect enough for me
So I’m making plans
to woo and marry him

"Bonjour."

"Pardon."

"Good day."

"Mais, oui."

"You call this bacon?"

"What lovely flowers."

"Some cheese."

"Ten yards."

"One pound."

" ’Scuse me."

"I’ll get the knife."

"Please let me through."

"This bread, it's stale."

"Those fish, hey smell."

"Madame’s mistaken."

"Well, maybe so."

Varian:There must be more
than this provincial life!

"Good morning."

Caine: Just watch I’m going
to become his wife

"Oh! Good morning!"

Town folk: Look there she goes
A boy who’s strange but special
He's most peculiar, can't you tell?
It’s a pity and a sin
He doesn’t quite fit in
But he really is a funny guy
A beauty but a funny guy
He really is a funny guy
That boy
