Cassandra hissed with pain.

"If you held still, it wouldn’t hurt as much," Varian warned.

"Well, if you hadn’t run away, none of this would have happened," she retorted.

"Well, if you hadn’t frightened me, I wouldn’t have run away," he countered.

"Well, you shouldn’t have been in the west wing!"

"Well, you should learn to control your temper!"

Cassandra sighed in defeat.  "Whatever."

"But... thank you.  You know... for saving me... even though you caused me to be in that situation, you didn't have to do that for me.  Thank you."

Cassandra looked at him with surprise.  "You're... welcome..."

He tied the last bandage.  "Now get some rest.  You need it."

"Thank you," she said suddenly.

"Huh?"

"You could have left me to die in that snow.  Why didn't you?"

"Oh, that.  Apparently I'm too nice for my own good.  I couldn't just let you die.  No one deserves to die like that," Varian answered.  He walked out of the room to let Cassandra rest.  He closed the door behind him where he was greeted by the others.

"Thank you, Varian," Rapunzel said.

"We are grateful," Eugene added.  It was the first time Varian heard him admit he cared for Cassandra since the whole week he had been there.

"Why do you care about her so much?"

"We’ve been friends our whole lives with her.  Or were... I'm not sure what she thinks.  She won't just sit and talk about things.  She hates talking about feelings..."

"But you're cursed too somehow. Why?  Obviously, this was not alchemy as I had believed at first. You did nothing, so why?"

"You're right.  We did.  We just stood by," Eugene agreed.

"You see, when Cass lost her father and her cruel mother twisted and manipulated Cass, and twisted her, we did nothing.  We were much younger, we didn't know what to do so we pretended everything was fine.  Cass never was able to meet her mother's expectations, and her mother was so verbally abusive.  You can imagine what a wreck Cass has been since her mother's death," Rapunzel explained.  "All that while we stood by.  Cass is like a sister to me and I could have helped her.  I really could have, but I didn't."

"What could you have done?"  Varian asked.

"We knew the situation.  We should have told someone, but we didn't.  I knew it was wrong, and I could have told my mom and dad and they could have actually helped.  Now my dad doesn't even remember he has a daughter..."  Rapunzel whispered.

"It is true that some of us are innocent and were caught up in this.  Kiera and Cat, Miss Arianna," Lance began.

"But if we're here there must be a reason.  Otherwise, why wouldn't we have been sent out and forgotten like so many others?"

"This curse is so confusing," Varian muttered.  "What happens when the last petal falls?"

"Cassandra will remain a beast forever and we become...  I assume we will forever be pots and knick-knacks," Lance answered.

"I want to help you. There must be some way to break the curse," Varian said.

"Well, there is one way.  We haven't exactly cleared that up, but this is our fight.  You don't need to worry," Rapunzel replied.

"You should get some rest.  We'll answer all the questions we can another time," Arianna said.

He sighed. "Yeah, I am tired."  He left to go to his room."

Keira and Cat: Days in the sun
When our life has barely begun
Not until our whole life is done
Will we ever leave you

They leaned against Lance.

Arianna: Will I tremble again
To my dear one's gorgeous refrain
Will he now forever remain
Out of reach of my arms

Eugene and Raps: Oh, those days in the sun
What I’d give to relive just one
Undo what’s done
And bring back the light

Lance: Oh, I could sing
Of the pain these dark days bring
The spell we’re under
Still it’s the wonder of us I sing of tonight

Varian walked into his room, and looked out the window.

Varian: How in the midst of all this sorrow
Can so much hope and love endure?
l was innocent and certain
Now I’m wiser but unsure
Arianna: (Days in the past)
Varian: I can’t go back into my childhood
Arianna: (Oh, those precious days couldn’t last)
Varian: One that my father made secure
I can feel a change in me
Cass: (Oh, hold me closer)
Varian: l’m stronger now, but still not free

Cass: What did I do?
How did I deserve losing you?
Please don't die
You promised to be here with me forever...

All:Days in the sun
Will return we must believe
As lovers do
That days in the sun
Will come shining through
