When Rose and I leave she is joking about Amie’s new sass. I am trying to bite back a laugh so that I can stay straight on the road. About two hours into the ride she falls asleep and I am holding her hand.

I’m actually surprised when Mom agreed with me when I told her that Rose deserves a trip somewhere. Rose came into the living room when I was talking to Mom about it, so I couldn’t surprise her about it. She still liked it, and it actually made her a little more cheerful for the next few days.

I think her mom was starting to stress her out with still not accepting Rose being pregnant. At least my mom was being somewhat cool about it. She told me that when she heard about the pregnancy that she was disappointed but at the same time she was happy that I found someone to share this with.

When I told my mom about my plan she said that she’ll take care of everything, so she rented the beach house that’s on a private beach for us, and she also put some money in a bank account for us to use on the trip.

Whenever I have to turn are the only times I take my hand out of Rose’s hand. When it is starting to get dark Rose wakes up.

“I’m hungry.”

“Hello hungry, I’m Xavier.” I say, gaining a snort from Rose.

“Real funny.” She says.

“Hold on, let me get off this highway at the next exit and then I’ll get you something to eat. what do you want?”

She shrugs. “To be honest I don’t care as long as I get some food in my stomach, I do have to feed two of us.”

I laugh. I reach over and rub her belly and she puts her hand over mine. God, she is beautiful. I can’t believe that she is mine sometimes.

When I get off of the exit we see a burger joint.

“Oh, there.” She points to it. I laugh. “Shut up, I’m starving.”

“Well, we don’t want that.” I say playfully and park. I look at the gas meter before I turn the car off. “Before we get back on the road, I have to get more gas.”

“Okay,” She says. getting out. I get out as well and we go inside the burger joint.

We sit down at one of the booths, the waitress comes over to us handing us each a menu.

“I’ll be back when you’re ready.”

“I know what I want to drink already.” Rose says. The waitress looks at her waiting. “I want a large root beer.”

“Okay, coming right up.” The waitress looks at me with a seductive smile, or at least what she thinks is seductive. “And what will you have?” she asks in a sultry voice.

“I’ll have the same.” I say and start looking through the menu ignoring her.

“Alright.” She says in an angry voice.

Why do women try to hit on guys who are with a woman right in front of them?

I hear a snort come from Rose. I look up at her to see what is wrong, but she is laughing.

“Women are such idiots.” She says. I guess I asked my question out loud then.

“Not all women.” I say

“Yes, they are.”

“No, they’re not, because you’re not an idiot.”

She snorts. “I wasn’t talking about me.”

“What are you having’?” I ask.

“I’m having two double cheeseburgers and French fries.”

I nod my head. “I’m just having a bacon cheeseburger and some French fries.”

“Guys.” She says rolling her eyes.

“What?”

“Guys and their bacon.”

I nod my head with a smile on my face.

The waitress comes back with our drinks.

“What am I getting for you?” she asks looking at me.

“Well, I’m having two double cheeseburgers and some French fries.” Rose says waving her hand as if making sure that she isn’t invisible.

The waitress doesn’t write anything down.

“So, you’re going to make my pregnant girlfriend starve?” I ask.

That gets through to the waitress, she looks at Rose with shock and then finally writes the order down.

“I’m having the bacon cheeseburger.” The waitress writes down the order and then walks back to the glassless window that connects to the kitchen.

I look at Rose, she is just drinking her soda and watching the window waiting for her food.

“Why did you tell that waitress that I was pregnant?” she asks.

I look at her confused before replying. “She wasn’t backing off, and plus I thought you didn’t regret this.”

She looks over to me.

“I don’t regret this, but I also don’t want to be labeled as a slut.” She says in a quiet tone.

“Hey, you are not a slut.” I say as I grab one of her hands with both of mine. “Rose, is that what you think of yourself?”

She shakes her head slowly. “No, but I still don’t want people saying that I am.”

I nod my head.

“Don’t think like that. When people say that they just don’t understand, hell I don’t understand what is going on with us, I’m still learning things as we go, we are both going to learn things together, okay?”

“Okay,” she says nodding her head.

The waitress brings our food out. I eat all of my burger and half of my fries, and Rose eats everything that was on her plate. I pay the check and then we go to the gas station before we are back on the road again.

When we get to the beach house it is about two in the morning. I grab our stuff out of the car and we go inside. Rose goes straight to the bed when we get into the bedroom. I lay down behind her and wrap my arm around her waist gently. She moves back into me and presses herself to me. I kiss the back of her neck.

“Good night, baby.” I whisper.

“Good night.” She says tiredly.

We fall asleep quickly.

By the time we wake up it is almost noon. When I wake up, Rose isn’t in the bed, and I don’t hear the shower running. I look around for her, and find her standing on the beach letting the water hit her feet. I go out over to her and wrap my arms around her waist and she leans back into me.

“This is nice,” she looks back at me over her shoulder. “I’m glad that you are with me.”

“I am happy that you are here with me too.” I say.

I lean down and kiss her gently on the lips, she turns around in my arms and kisses me back.
