When we get halfway home, we stop to get some more gas and some more food, after Rose eats she goes back to sleep since the baby kept kicking last night keeping her up. When we get home, I go around the car and open her door for her, but she is still asleep. I kneel down next to her.
“Wake up, sleepy head, we’re home.” I whisper. She just moans and turns her head to the other side.
“I’ll carry you.” I threaten, she hates it when I carry her.
She just moves into my arms, not even bothering to fight me about carrying her inside.
“Wow, you are tired.” I mumble.
I pick her up and open the door, which is difficult, but I am able to do it. I bring her into the living room and lay her down and go back out to the car and grab our stuff out of the trunk and bring it upstairs to our bedroom, well my bedroom, but it pretty much became ours.
I go back down to the living room, but she is still asleep,
“Come on, let’s get you up into the bed.” I say.
She rolls over so that her back is facing me, “I’m too tired.” She mumbles with sleepiness in her voice.
I am about to pick her up again to bring her upstairs, but Destiny comes in from the kitchen, looks at us and comes over.
“Is she okay?” Destiny asks with concern.
“Yeah, she’s just tired, the baby kept kicking last night so it kept her up.” I say.
“Oh. Okay.” She says, sits down by Rose’s feet, Rose rolls back over and then sits up.
“Well, the baby’s kicking again.” She says. She looks at Destiny “When does it stop kicking?”
“Oh, it’ll kick pretty much the whole term, but it’ll not kick as much in about a month or so, depending on the baby.” Destiny explains.
Rose moves her hands and the light catches the ring and the ruby reflects the light, Destiny looks at the ring.
“Wow, that’s gorgeous.” She says breathlessly then looks up at me.
“You know how to pick out rings.” She says.
“It’s my birth stone. We found out when the baby is due, its due May twentieth.” Rose says.
“Really? Hmm, a May baby.” Destiny says thoughtfully. “Well we should show my mom your ring.”
Rose looks tired, but she gets up anyways. We go out to the back patio to find my mom, dad, Catharine, and my two other siblings. It sucks being the youngest in a four-child family sometimes, but you also get to have older siblings to help you out.
Destiny pulls Rose over to the patio table and shows them the ring that I gave Rose.
“Look what Xavier got Rose.” Destiny exclaims.
They all look at her engagement ring, “Wow.” Mom says.
“That’s the most beautiful ring I’ve seen.” Christy, my eldest sister, says.
“Definitely.” Agrees Justin, my older brother.
“When did you get it?” Dad asks.
“I think you guys are rushing things.” Catharine says.
Rose’s shoulders drop when Catharine talks. I look at my father.
“I got the ring on Tuesday when Rose was asleep early.” Rose looks back at me.
“I thought you got it before we went and that’s why we came back here before we left.” She says.
I shake my head, “no I brought my backpack here, and grabbed my wallet, since I forgot it that morning.”
“Oh.” Rose says nodding her head. She sits down in one of the empty chairs.
“The baby is going to be due on May Twentieth.”
“That’s great.” Mom says.
Rose lifts her leg up and pulls the pant leg up and the tattoo is in full view.
“I’m waiting until I know the gender of the baby to put the name and the birthdate going down the dragons back.” Rose explains, so that’s why she wanted the tattoo?
Justin leans forward and looks at the tattoo, “It looks cool.”
“Thanks.” She says putting her leg down and fixing her pant leg.
“You look tired, sweetie.” Mom says.
“I didn’t get much sleep last night because the baby kept kicking me.”
“Oh. Yeah that definitely gets annoying.”
Rose stands back up, “I’m going to try to get some more sleep as long as the baby doesn’t kick me.” She goes inside.
“I’m still pissed at you two, about this.” Catharine says.
I look over to her, “I know, you won’t let us forget that, you practically say it every day.” I say and turn and go up to my room.
I climb into the bed and Rose rolls over and moves into my arms.

At the Christmas party, Rose hides in the library reading. When I finally do find her, I sit down next to her.
“You okay?” I ask.
“Yeah, I’m just a bit hormonal and with some things that people were saying I wanted to cry, laugh, or both, and I just don’t want to do that.”
I nod my head and smile at the same time, because I know how much she hates being emotional about anything. I move closer to her and wrap my arm around her shoulders and she lays her head on my shoulder and with the same hand I run my fingers through her hair. While she reads I just sit there and watch her read her favorite book, that she has in brail, the book is something about war between heaven and hell.
Destiny comes into the library.
“Oh there you are, Rose. Some people are asking for you.” Rose stands up and follows Destiny and I follow them out. We go to the den and Rose stumbles so I grab her upper arms looking down at her with worry trying to figure out why she stumbled, but I don’t have to wait long.
“Oh, my God.” Rose whispers. I follow her line of sight and see some woman with raven black hair and similar features that Rose has. The woman comes over to us and stops in front of Rose.
“What are you doing here?” Rose asks quietly.
“You’re telling me I can’t see my beautiful little sister?” The woman asks.
“But I thought you were dead this whole time, that’s what mom and dad said, they said you died from leukemia, how else am I supposed to react.” So, this is the sister that supposedly passed away, she looks good for a dead woman.
“Well, you could always jump up and down really excitedly to finding out that your sister isn’t dead.”
“You’re so full of yourself.” Rose says angrily cutting her sister off, “You think after what you, mom, and dad put me through that I’d be happy to know that you’re alive. Well, I guess you really don’t know me after all.”
Holy hell, what is going on? I’ve never seen Rose so angry before and it is a little unnerving, I don’t like seeing her so upset.
“How come if you were alive mom and dad told me otherwise?”
“Because I didn’t want to be around you, when I thought I was dying, and I needed to get myself together before I came to see you, but mom told me about you being…”
“Mom talks to you?” Rose asks.
“Yeah, why wouldn’t she, she already knew I was alive what was she supposed to do pretend that I was dead?”
“Maybe.” Rose turns and goes into the kitchen leaving her sister, Destiny, and I behind.
