The setting of Caroline's baby shower was to die for. Literally. To say the place was beautiful was an understatement and any other sane person would realise that but I suppose it was to be expected, with Carrie's father being a billionaire and her boyfriend a super star I don't really think it'll be logical for her to settle for anything less.
After all, her standards were high though not as high as mine if I say so myself.
The way the lit candles lit up the table gave the environment some sort of easy demeanour. Cotton clouds hung down from the ceiling in their camouflaging baby colours and to render the place cool and cozy for all guests and honestly, I would say it was working pretty well.
As I looked around some more, Kai's voice came beaming me back to reality "Is she always this fancy?" He whispered, trying not to attract more attention than he already had. I mean, not to brag or anything, but he did look quite good in his white shirt.
"She's from a family with riches, what did you expect?" I whispered back. "-I mean, wouldn't you have done the same?" I asked him, following his lead as he led us to a table which was partially occupied by a lady probably in her sixties and a lovely girl who looked not a day older than fifteen which was probably her grand daughter.
As we sat, her eyes lit up as she took into further notice the male sitting by me. I didn't blame her. I'd probably be doing same.
"I'd prefer something smaller with only those important to me. This event seems like it's for half America." Malachi blurted out.
"Huh?" I snapped my head towards him baffled by what he just said. "What are we talking about?"
"You asked if I'd want a baby shower like this."
"Oh." I thought for a second. "Is that because of what the public may think?" I asked, rubbing my thumbs on my lap.
"I couldn't care less what they think. I was still little when my mum was about to have Mikayla and Micheal but I do remember how simplicity claimed it's thrown."
I just smiled. His thoughts were simple, the way he loved was simple, nothing too overwhelming but just right in the way that would always catch you unprepared.
"AYEEE LI!" A voice practically screamed from behind me causing Malachi and I to instantly snap our heads round.
"You look gorgeous, C." I admitted, embracing Carrie for a warm hug. She still smelt the same, like Caramel and Honey and he beautiful blonde hair didn't fail to enhance her natural beauty.
I guess it's true what they say about pregnancy, it does really give you a glow.
"Omg, I though you couldn't make it. Oh damn, you dragged your man meat along?" She joked.
Wish I could laugh though...this little reunion didn't mean we were back to normal. Sooner or later, she'll just need to realise this is my goodbye.
"Congratulations." Kai commented earning him a heartfelt smile. "Congrats." I added "-how've you been?"
For a moment there, I though I noticed a hint of hesitation but after her response, I knew this girl was more than ok. "Totally fine, perfect in fact. We've been planning our wedding for after the baby is born and I don't think life could get any better since, well...." She looked at both of us for some approval of some sort which I don't think so got since we were still listening in on what she had to say. "We're moving out of the states. I don't,now, maybe you could do some babysitting as Dean and I travel house hunting. What do you say Lilac?"
"I er-
"She wish she could...really, though Lilac tends to get really busy. I doubt a little one would possibly contribute to her schedule. Isn't that right?" He asked, looking at me for a response as he snaked his arm around my waist.
