VI. The Padawan

One year has passed, and now Grogu and I are always together training or learning things. Luke left months ago to go looking for new younglings, so it was just the two of us.

The kid has become better at controlling the force, he also learned how to save some energy so that he doesn't pass out after every use. He has grown maybe an inch, which is actually normal for his species... I guess.
I became attached to him. It isn't very Jedi, I know, but it happened. I think it's the same for him...
And let's not forget the biggest thing, he knows a few words, He has the cutest voice!

His favorite word is 'dad', which was actually his first. I repeated it to him a lot until he was able to say it. We are so gonna surprise the Mandalorian.
Other things he says are 'soup', 'hug' and the numbers one and two. The numbers are kinda my fault:
During training I would always remind him not to go too fast, and I used to say "One two, Grogu, one two". It means to go one step at the time, there is no rush.
Eventually, after hearing it so many times he learned it.
He also tries to say my name, but still can't. So right now I'm not Kaira, but I have to stick to Kai.

"Grogu!" I call him looking for him. He wanted to play hide and seek so here I was. I never wanted to be the serious Master, i prefer to be a friend to my padawan, especially when the kid is still so small.
I hear a twig crack to my left, so I turn and walk low and slow. I see a shadow with pointy ears from behind a tent, the kid didn't notice he stood near a light.
"Hmm, maybe he went right" I trick him into thinking that I didn't see him, but I slowly approach the corner. I jump out
"Boo!" he gasps as I start laughing "Gotcha, piccolo!"
He tilts his head not understanding me
"Piccolo is a word in my mother's first language, it means 'little one'. You like it?" He nods.
I pick him up after he tugs my cloak.

I bring him to eat something and watch him as he slurps his soup

(A/N "good soup"👌🏼, that's for you Adam Driver fans)

"Hey kid, do you wanna go on a trip?"
He looks at me "We'll use my ship and BB will come too" he smiles and babbles happy.
BB, or with his full name BB-4 was my Droid, which I had found a few months ago during a mission. It is a sphere-shape, colorful. One of the most loyal droid I had ever seen, it is perfect for my ship and always helps me to fly it.
Grogu and BB make each other curious, and the kid always plays with it.

Once the kid is done eating I call the droid with a whistle and it immediately rolls near us.
"BB let's reach the ship, we are going on a space trip" it beeps and guide us to my craft, the Spark.
It is a rather small ship, just perfect to contain two persons.
BB-4 sets itself on its spot ready to go.

What Grogu doesn't know is that we are going to meet the Mandalorian. And the man too isn't aware about this. The day before I managed to contact him, and I set a meeting with him making up a reason. For all he knows I'm a space explorer who found a Mandalorian armor and wants to give it back to its owners.

"Whenever we're ready let's jump to hyperspace, BB"
He beeps and after 10 seconds or so we start our trip.

As the familiar surrounding of hyperspace flashes past the ship I look at my padawan, playing with the red ball I always carry with me, and think about how much I have taught him during this year

"The Force surrounds us, and binds all the matter in the universe together. It is the soul of all living things, it exists everywhere. It allows us to have a choice, but kid, never forget about destiny. Destiny is fundamental."

"Jedis are sensitive to light and dark energy. Jedis follow the light, the good. You must be careful of the dark side, that is why we avoid relationship of any kind. Strong attachment leads us to fear, hate and anger, and those lead us to the dark side"

"Jedis don't stress about future and past, we all live in the present, now. It doesn't mean you can't think about it, but you must control your mind, do not let it control you"

"The key is meditation, kid. We must have clear mind, be calm and focused. Every day Jedis take a moment to meditate, clear all contaminations from the world. That brings us to thoughts: Jedis believe in positive attitude, and we must always be mindful of our thoughts. In bad situation we appeal to sense of humor, make people feel better. No one likes a Jedi that is too serious"

"Patience, Grogu" I said as he struggled to levitate a big rock "Do not let frustration get to you. One two, kid. One step at time, one two"
He relaxed with closed eyes and tried again.
"Great, kid. Look"
The huge rock was higher than my head. This kid is really strong

"After death there is life. All the ancient Masters continue to guide us from there"
Grogu tugged my cloak interrupting me
"Dad" he said pointing at me
"My father?" I asked causing him to nod "Yes, I believe he's watching me, and he is always in here" I put my hand on my chest where the heart locates

"All Jedi are guardians of peace and justice. They are our priority. We prefer negotiation, avoid fights. We must be compassionate and empathic. Never fight the defensless. Always use the Force for the good, be humble, be selfless"

"Jedi don't do politics, but we believe in democracy" the kid looked at me confused "Yeah, maybe this is too much for you age. We'll get to it"

"The Force can let us see the future, which is useful but also dangerous. That's why we need to control our minds. Also thanks to the Force we can feel disturbances, that means that we know if a disaster happens, or someone loses their life, or danger"

I am lost in thoughts and I don't even notice that we are close to our destination. BB-4's beeps bring me back in reality
"We're already here?"
More beeping
"Thanks, buddy. Let's begin to land"
I look at Grogu pointing at the seatbelt, and he immediately straps himself to the seat. Good boy.
I wonder sometimes why he listens to me this much. According to the memories with the Mandalorian the kid was never much of a rule follower.

We enter Nevarro's atmosphere and get to the hangar, where I gracefully make the ship land.
"Let's go guys, we have buisness to do"
BB gets near us and attaches himself on Grogu's cart, Luke's great idea to make his movements faster.
As we leave the hangar I look for the craft of the man we're about to meet, just to remember that it was blown up the year before.

The meeting is at the local cantina, the one where probably the Mandalorian got all his jobs back before meeting Grogu.

I stand in front of the closed door
"This is the place. BB, get back to the Spark and guard it for me, will you?"
It beeps and let Grogu come down before leaving
"Stay close to me piccolo, okay?"
I breathe in an out, then push the button on the door's panel.

I should have brought an umbrella. Things are about to get emotional
