"Why?" Jin was calm.
"You want to know why we recruited her?" The cheif looked at him among the smoke of the pipe he was smoking.
Jin was silent.
"You know, someone's past isn't our concern. She was sincere to be a pilot, and she deserved it. Who were we to stop her?" The chief's voice was calm.
"Why NIS?" this time Jin was specific.
"Why not? Just because she quit the airforce didn't mean she lost the potential to become a great asset! Just like you. NIS recruited you after you quit, didn't we?"
"You didn't recruit me. Not her too."
The cheif was silent for a moment, trying to digest the fact that Jin was just not talking back, but also indirectly showed his disobedience.
"What are you trying to say, Seokjin?"
"You all knew who she was, didn't you?"
"Of course, we knew. Wouldn't it be funny if we didn't know?" The cheif frowned a bit, "it is our job to know."
"And you guys just used her as bait. Offering her the Job in NIS was just part of your selfish bigger plans. It was never your plan to recruit her as a normal agent. You always had this plan to send her to North Korea as a scapegoat. You just used her."
The cheif looked at Jin's eyes and surprisingly enough, Jin didn't avert his gaze.
That respectful and obedient agent was not just talking back now, He was spitting venom utterly fatal for himself too.
"Careful Seokjin! Know your place before you raise your finger to someone. I am nice to you doesn't mean I will always be. You won't get a second offer because of your father if I fire you now. Your dad's reputation won't save you anymore if you piss me off."
"So that how it was?" Jin frowned, his face turning to a bitter expression.
"What?"
"I got into NIS because of my dad's reputation?"
"Why did you think NIS would hire a whistleblower? You exposed your officers in the airforce in front of everyone. NIS cares about their secrecy with top priority. Hiring a whistleblower to risk their secrets- do you think they'd do that?" The chief was still calm, but it was evident that he was in his director mood now. Ready to spit truth if his underling tries to throw shades at his respectful image.
Jin's face was now bitter and pale at the same time.
"I...I...""If you don't believe, go ask your General papa if he really did pull some strings in NIS so that they'd approach you with the offer."
"He never approved my joining NIS." Jin was trying to regain his lost faith for the last time.
"Well, he didn't! But what would he do if his one son ruined his family reputation and even turned his back towards the profession? This was his only salvage project to prevent you ruining it all."
