17. Chinatown

My job wasn't getting any easier. Even after the time I had taken off. The ones that promised to help me only made my life hell. I decided to go back to school for drug rep. Get my degree and make my own choices.

I sat down to feed Lily getting her ready for Rosa whom we had hired to take care of the baby while we worked. I decided to stay with Hank for now.

Morning he said coming down for coffee.

Hey there. Rosa is on her way and I'll be home late so can you get something to eat after work?

I'll be fine just do what you got to do.  He said. How is Rosa working out?

She can't speak English very well but she is lenient as far as hours go. I'm not picky.

I'm really proud of you Shay. He said as he offered his finger to Lily. Gewing back at her as he played.

School was going well. I met a girl there and had only been few weeks so it was nice to know at least one person here. She seemed solid except for a guy that she had been seeing. Ren Mei was one of those petite pretty asian girls. She had long straight black hair. Tiny for her age. The guy she had been seeing he didn't look so nice. Kinda gangster.

The argument looked heated but then he split. It seems that they fought on a regular though she always played it off as nothing.

I asked her for a ride home one day after school she said yes but she had to make stop. We drove through a rough looking neighborhood. She asked me to wait. I locked the door as a black fellow peered through the window. Laughing at how uncomfortable he had made me.

When she finally came back out he was arguing with her. I stepped out to back her up and two guys stood in my way sizing me up. We finally get back to her car but she wouldn't explain why she was so upset. Finally she mentioned her sister went missing few months back and the guy Kenny was suppose to help her find out what had happened. She even paid him some money at one point.

The guy seemed shady as he glared back at me.

I got to work and called to check on Lily forgetting what had happened in my day. Later I get a call from Ren Mei frantic.

Please I need..then sounded as if someone had interupted her. Nevermind she said before hanging up on the other end.

Next morning I was worried. I just had a bad feeling that kept gnawing at me.

Whats goin on? Hank asked.

Can you wait for Rosa ima go early. My girl friend never got back with me im kinda worried about her.

Sure ill wait go ahead do what you got to do.

I had planned to lecture her when I got to school that morning but she never showed. I decided to go looking for her myself. It was probably a bad idea to come here alone but my friend sounded scared and I wanted to look that guy in the eye.

The same two guys that stood in my way yesterday stood before me now.

I want to speak with Kenny. I'm not leaving until I do. When he came outside he sent me a smirk.

What do you want? You dont belong here.

I'm here for Ren Mei. I think you have her. You got her sister in there to?

Man you don't know shit lady. What you think. You can just walk in this neighborhood and start barking orders? Do you know what happens to people that don't belong here.

I have friends so if something happens to me they will come looking.

Nice more girlfriends?

How about the po-lice. she illiterate He didn't like my speech took it as a threat. Dragging my ass through the back.

Lady you shouldn't have said all that. One guy had warned me to just keep my mouth shut. I sat for awhile then when it got dark I was put inside a commercial van and taken away.

Hank was worried when Shay didn't come home. Started an investigation on what information I had given. Talked to the school about Ren Mei. Found out she put missing persons out few months past. Got her Sister info. The information on Sara Lee led to a private Gambling den in Chinatown which harbored an illegal betting operation that had uncovered a link to Kenny and his gang affiliation.

After Grilling Kenny about his link to this operation some other information about Asian girl trafficking led to an operation in Philadelphia. A man that went by A.K.A Jinks his real name Everett Jenkins.. Hank knew contacts in Philly. Able to contact Jenkins boys set up a talk.

Turns out Jenkins was a middle man. Deep connections in an underground networking system that involved some government officials and oversees politicians. This was how Jenkins always escaped through the radar. An important judge by the name of Charles Granger set up a meet and discussion with Hank to make a deal for Shay but they had to drop everything they had on the case. A deal was made.
