Bunyip!Australia x Reader (part 1)

Bunyip (Aboriganese) - a creature said to lurk in swamps, ponds, creeks, river beds and water holes. It's said to pray on children and cattle if they get too close to the waters edge. It's also thought that they would pray on women and children at night.

There's isn't a set idea of what a Bunyip actually looks like because the sightings all vary, so I just chose a picture I thought looked cool.

You're visiting Australia and you're staying in a small house on the edge of the outback, not far from a water hole. You had heard the stories of the Bunyip and you wanna see if it's real. You wait until night time to go out to look for it and you bring a knife and a flashlight with you. You never know what could creep up behind you in the wild.

You go to the water hole, remembering that it lurks in water and that's the closest body of water to you. You get there and the water's a dark color. You cautiously approach the waters edge, shining your flashlight at the surface. You don't see anything, but you feel like you're not alone.

"Whatcha lookin' for?"

The voice comes from behind you and surprises you. You start to fall towards the water, but a pair of arms catch you. The person turns you around and you shine your flashlight in his face, temporarily blinding him.

"Hey, watch where yer pointin' that!" He says as he tries to shield his eyes from the sudden bright light. You see he has short brown hair with two cowlicks, a bandaid across his nose and you saw a flash of his green eyes when his pupils got smaller from you shining the light in his face.

"Sorry!" You apologize as you lower the flashlight's beam to his chest area. He's wearing an outfit similar to something Steve Irwin would wear. He looks back at you and he looks confused.

"What're ya doin' out here at this time a night?"

"Okay, I know it sounds stupid, but I'm looking for the Bunyip."

He raises an eyebrow. "Bunyip eh?"

"Yeah. I just wanna see if it's real."

"Oh it's real alright. I seen it with me own eyes."

"Really?"

"Yeah. It had teeth like a saber-tooth tiger. I never seen anythin' like it b'fore that."

"What's your name?"

"Jett. How 'bout you?"

"(Name)."

"Nice t' meet you, (Name). Listen, I can tell you all I know about the Bunyip, but it's really late. How about we meet up tomorrow and I tell you about it?"

"Are you asking me on a date?"

Your question catches him by surprise and he starts lightly blushing as he smiles at you. "I hadn't thought about it like that, but sure. I'll take you someplace nice tomorrow, yeah?"

You smile back. "I look forward to it. Hey, how come you're out here?"

"I seen the flashlight from my window and came to check it out."

"Oh, okay. Do you have your phone on you?"

"Yeah."

"Here, I'll give you my number and you can tell me where and when you wanna meet me."

"Alright." He handed you his phone and you entered your number into a new contact and labeled it with your name.

"Okay, all done," you say as you hand him his phone back.

"Great. See you tomorrow." He starts to walk away without saying anything else.

You go back to your small house with a smile on your face.

-------Jett's POV-------

She's a really cute girl, but she's lookin' for me. I can't let her know what I really am. I'll just act like I only ever seen one an' I don't know anythin' in detail about it. She can't know, she'll be afraid of me if does.
