Queen? You? What does he mean by you being his queen? Then you remember you're probably late for the dig and you'll get your ass handed to you by your professor if you don't show up soon.
"Um, Mr. Anubis-" you start saying.
"Call me Gupta while I am in this form," he interrupts.
"Okay, Gupta, this is all a lot to take in right now. And I should get back to my class. I mean, they're probably wondering where I am.
"You may leave if you wish, but I will be checking in on you."
"Uh, okay? But how do I leave?"
"I will take you back to where you were."
The next thing you know, you're in the middle of the street you were walking down when you first got abducted, wearing what you were before all that happened. It seems to be later in the day, so you run down to the dig site where your class is supposed to be.
Once you get there, you see that everyone's still there, which causes you to sigh in relief. You can't be accused of skipping, which would revoke your legibility to go on trips anymore.
"(Name)! There you are!" Your best friend calls to you as they run up to you. You can see the worry in their face. "Where've you been?! You were supposed to be here three hours ago!"
"I got caught up in some really crazy stuff," you tell them. "I'll explain later."
"Attention, everyone," says your professor to the whole class. "We have a very special guest here today, an expert on Egyptian mythology. Please welcome Dr. Hassan."
Standing behind your professor was Anubis, or you should say, Gupta. He got a change of clothes to look like a real archeologist and also a white keffiyeh on his head that's tied with a grayish brown agal.
"Hello everyone," he says to your class. "I look forward to spending time with you."
"Back to work!" Everyone else goes back to doing what they were doing before. You start to turn around to follow your best friend. "Not so fast, (Name)." You stop in your tracks and turn to face them. They look very upset. "Care to explain why you're so late?"
"It was my fault," says Gupta. "I needed her help with some things before I was to come here. I'm sorry I didn't send word of this."
"Ah, I see." They turn to you again. "I guess you're off the hook this time, (Name). But I'm watching you." They walk away without another word.
You turn to Gupta. "Why are you here," you demand in a whisper.
"I told you I would be checking in on you."
"We just saw each other like two minutes ago! And you're pretending to be an archeologist!"
"I technically am an expert on Egyptian mythology, as I and the other gods experienced most of these events."
"But you're pretending to have a doctorate! That's a crime in the human world!"
"Then I just need to not get caught."
You groan in frustration.
"After all, if I weren't here, you would be in a lot of trouble."
You sigh. "Fine. Thanks, I guess."
He smiles slightly. "Not a problem, my queen."
"By the way, what did you mean by 'make me your queen'?"
"I believe the term that you would most understand is 'lover.' But I think queen suits you much better."
"Hold on, hold on, hold on." You notice people staring at the two of you. "Can we talk about this someplace more private?"
"Of course." The two of you walk away from the group and stop once you're out of earshot from them.
"Lover?!" You repeat, disbelief in your voice.
"Yes. I want you to become my lover."
"Don't you have a wife?" If your memory about these myths serves you correctly, Anubis is married to Anput.
He expression changes to a sad one as he looks down at the ground. "She left me long ago. That's why it was empty when you were in my palace."
You start to feel bad about bringing it up. "Oh, I'm sorry."
Then he looks up at you and gives you a small smile. "It's fine, because I've met you. You see, I've been very lonely since since she left me. Once those worshippers called me forth when they tried to sacrifice you to me, I thought you looked beautiful in that outfit. You looked like a real Egyptian queen. Hell, you rival the goddesses even. But if they killed you, I would have had to bring you to Osiris in the Afterlife and never be able to see you again. I wanted to be able to know you longer, so I stopped them. Plus them doing a human sacrifice was just uncalled for. I was fine with the animal sacrifices, but human sacrifices is where I draw the line."
He takes a step towards you and looks you in the eye. "Please, let me prove to you that becoming my queen is worth it. All I ask for is a chance."
You guess if it weren't for him, you'd be dead. It's kinda the least you could do for him to pay him back.
"...Fine."
He smiles and pulls you into a hug. After a little bit like that, he inhales deeply through his nose, smelling your hair.
"Okay, this is getting weird!" You says as you push him off you.
He chuckles a little and puts his hand on the back of his neck. "Sorry, I couldn't resist."
