Chapter 11

Where is your family tonight – Andy and Rave

So Here we see my munchkin ThisKidAintAlright s coming to the family!

Andy

I walked in to the room to find Pete looking visibly saddened and on the phone. “Okay mom, I’ll see what I can do from my side. Bye.” I skimmed his features and decided to ask what was troubling his family.
“Hey man, is everything alright back home?”
He shook his head. “No man, remember I told you I wanted to get back in touch with my half-brother James? Well, my mom and dad were looking into it and they had a lead and by the time they’d gotten there, there had been a really horrible car crash. There was this trucker that hit his car and the car must have rolled or something but it went up in flames and there was no ID that could be made apart from dental records. The worst part is, there’s apparently a daughter he has and now my mom is trying to track her down but it’s hard because she’s just fifteen so she wouldn’t leave much of a paper trail.”
This story was truly heart breaking. I went and gave Pete a bro hug. “Come on man, we’ll hire a PI to try track her down.”
***end of flashback***

Raven and Lainey were trying to catch my attention. I must have zoned out while I was recalling Pete telling me that story. “Raven, your dad. Was his name James?”

Rave’s eyes widened in fear. “How do you know that? Who are you?”

I held my head in my hands. “Raven, your uncle, Pete, him and his family have been looking for you for two years. They couldn’t find you. I was there when your uncle hired the PI to do the investigation."

Lainey looked at me equally confused. “You don’t mean our Pete, do you?”

I nodded. “Yes. You’re a Wentz. Well, half anyway. Legally, we have to talk to Pete since he is your fathers closest relative.”

For the second time in less than 24 hours, there was another woman passed out in my house.

Raven

I awoke to water being splashed lightly on my face. I could have sworn that last night Lainey Crane and Andy Hurley offered to adopt me and that was all thwarted by Andy figuring out I was Pete Wentz’s long-lost niece.

Wait, that did happen.

I looked at Andy in fear. “But Andy, he already has his own children and what if he doesn’t want me? You and Lainey want me but will Pete and his wife? They probably want to have kids of their own.”

Lainey was at my side like lightening. “Don’t you worry a thing little one. We’ll take care of it all. We do have to phone Pete and tell him though. He’s on honeymoon with Charlotte and he’ll most likely want you to go meet your cousins and get to know them.”

I had two cousins now out of nowhere. This was a lot to take in at once. In less than 12 hours I had gone from having no family at all to having a full compliment. The doorbell rang and I immediately tensed up. Andy held onto me tightly; he must have seen I was scared. “Just relax sweetie. It’s going to be Joe, Marie and Ruby. They’ll be more of an unofficial kind of uncle, aunt and cousin. Do you think you’re up to people right now?”

Joe freaking Trohman. Marie and Ruby Trohman. They were at Andy Hurley’s house (who was now my dad I guess) and they were here to meet me. Celebrities were actually bothering to come meet me. I nodded hesitantly.

Lainey had walked over to the door and was having a hushed conversation with the guests. The cutest baby ever was perched on the gorgeous Marie Trohman’s hip while Joe stood listening intently and nodding along; realisation hitting him when he knew who I was. He ran towards me and pulled me into a bear hug. “Dude! Do you know how long we’ve been looking for you! Fuck I’m so glad you’re safe!”

My eyes must have widened in fear because Marie quickly stepped in. “Joe! Language! Look, you’re scaring poor Raven off. I am sorry but I will call you Raven because I love that name and no one will be able to convince me otherwise. I am Marie and this little bundle here is Ruby. We’ll be your aunt, uncle and one of your cousins for the duration of this trip. The emergency exits are here and here.” She pointed at the front door and the door to the back from the kitchen. I lost a bit of the tense feeling I had had when Joe tackled me and laughed lightly. Joe spoke again. Sheesh. He was loud. “Has anyone phoned Pete?”

Andy looked up from his iPad, “I’m on Skype with him now. Rave, come on over. Say hi to Pete.”

I looked at him nervously and he looked back at me with a look that said he wouldn’t let anyone hurt me. I went over and hesitantly took the tablet from him. As I turned it I heard a sigh of relief. “Oh my God, you’re okay. Rave, I’m Pete, your dad’s half-brother. I am so sorry I haven’t been able to find you myself over all these years. Are you happy at Lainey and Andy’s?”

I looked at Andy again. “Tell him what you want Rave. Pete is the most understanding person alive.”

I looked into the camera on the iPad and spoke clearly. “I am really just overwhelmed right now. I went from having no family at all to a huge one in minutes but I am okay. And thank you, it means so much knowing that I had people who cared out there looking for me and not giving up. I don’t know how it worked out that Lainey found me but I am so happy she did. I know that you have a family of your own and that you and your new wife would probably like to have more kids and I can’t wait to spend time with you guys but I really think my place is with Lainey and Andy and I don’t want to upset anyone please.”

Pete smiled genuinely. “We can’t wait to meet you in person either and of course, if you feel most comfortable around Lainey and Andy then I will gladly sign your adoption form as long as you change your last name to Wentz-Hurley. I want everyone to know who my amazing niece is! Go and visit your cousins later okay? Their nanny is a lady named Miss Tiffany who could probably help you with school too.”

I nodded. “Thank you so much Pete! You’re great.”

I logged off and looked around the room. I was now a different person in a different world surrounded by awesomeness.
