Immediately the buzzing of voices rose in the common room as if surrounded by a swarm of bees. Occasionally Y/N heard someone snort contemptuously, some whispered to their neighbors, and others grinned gleefully.
"Do you think it's true?" he heard Blaise ask. Y/N shrugged in perplexity and replied quietly "After what Mary told me over the summer, it wouldn't surprise me." He looked at Draco who was standing between Crabbe and Goyle, his head tilted and lost in thought.
"Silence," Snape called over the heads of the Slytherins. Immediately the hum of voices died and silence spread through the room. "Good," said Snape in his typically quiet but sharp voice. "now if you would follow me"
With these words he turned on his heel and strode through the wall that was the entrance to the Slytherin common room, his cloak billowing behind him. Y/N and Blaise joined their friends and climbed up the stairs with them.
"What is it, Draco?" asked Y/N the blond boy. But he shook his head and remained silent. Y/N, surprised by his friend's unusual behavior, decided to leave it at that and, if necessary, ask him again the next day what was bothering him.
Y/N already knew during the train ride that Draco knew more about Black and his past than he wanted to tell.
The Slytherins followed Snape into the Great Hall. Some whispered and speculated how Black could have make it into the castle. Y/N, however, preferred to remain silent and brood.
Ever since their walk back from Hogsmead, when he had seen that bear-like figure, a queasy feeling had spread through him. And now that Snape had recounted the recent events, the feeling had not abated. On the contrary.
When the Slytherins entered the Great Hall, they found that they were the last of the houses to enter. Unlike the Slytherins and the Gryffindors, the other students looked extremely confused.
In the middle of the Great Hall, Professor Dumbledore stood and explained "The Teachers and I need to search the castle. I am afraid that, for your own safety, you will have to spend the night here. I want the prefects to stand guard over the entrances to the Hall and I am leaving the Head Boy and Girl in charge. Any disturbance should be reported to me immediately"
With a casual wave of his wand the long tables flew to the edges of the Hall and stood themselves against the wall. With a second wave he summoned hundreds of sleeping bags. "Sleep well" said Professor Dumbledor, closing the door behind him.
After the doors had closed, the hum of voices swelled again. The other houses, not yet knowing what had happened, inquired curiously by the Gryffindors.
"Everyone into their sleeping bags" shouted one of the Weasley's "no more talking! Lights out in ten minutes!" Y/N never bothered to learn who was who. The only thing he knew and needed to was that every single one of them were completely annoying.
"Come on," Draco said grumpily, grabbing a sleeping bag and heading for the wall closest to the Slytherin table. Y/N and the others followed.
While the others were still discussing about what had happened, Y/N spread out his sleeping bag and lay down. He didn't feel like speculating about what Black was up to. Since there was nothing he could do about it anyway, why waste energy on it. Nevertheless, he couldn't help but hear what his friends were talking about.
"What do you think Black wants here?" asked Pansy thoughtfully. Draco snorted and replied, "Well, according to the Ministry, he wants revenge on Potter."
Y/N, who was lying there listening with his eyes closed, couldn't help grinning at Draco's mocking tone.
"And what do you think?" asked Blaise who had just sat down next to him. "What exactly?" asked Y/N. "Well, what does Black want here?" explained Blaise impatiently. Y/N sighed briefly and then replied, "According to the Ministry, he wants revenge on Potter, and I have no reason not to believe it. Only Mary has other thoughts about, but I've already told you that".
