Glenn

Serenity was sitting in front of a vanity mirror while I stood behind her with a shaver in hand. Her eyes, her lips and her spirit all at once smiled at me.

She was beaming.

"I can endure any pain as long as I see you happy, smiling."

Her hair was woven from the black heavens, fine strands of spacetime and starlight. In that intimate space, so close to the nape of her neck, I already knew the scent of her perfume was something I'd always crave.

I knew I'd have that emotional need to come right back here to this exact moment, to this blessed time our connection was made. She was so lovely, with a romantic mind and such a sweet mocking mouth.

My eyes stung a little, grasping her arms and she touched my fingers. I tug the scrunchy and her hair flows freely, cascading down her shoulders.

A pleasant smell issues from her, one that opens the album of good and heart warming memories, it takes over the air.

Silken webs of morning sunlight crept through the window pane, painting her skin gold. I took a deep breath and very slowly, I started to shave her hair away.

She gave me a thumbs up, tears misted over her large luminous eyes though she tried to look brave. I chased her wetted cheek with a warm kiss.

"Glenn," she brushed her fingers along my jaw, "I urge you to go on."

Her hands were baby soft yet with them she moved mountains.

There is an eternalness in such unmeasured time, forever in a moment and perhaps that's what I feel whenever I'm with her.

I continued to shakily shave away the voluminous strands as the broken pieces fall to the floor like feathers. I loved her hair but to see her give it all for a worthy cause, made me treasure the light that she sees even more.

She was donating her hair to cancer patients, every bit of it.

This took so much courage and I saw her strength, from her eyes to the pattern of her thoughts. She was such loving soul, tidying, supporting yet encouraging growth.

My fingers acted as a shield for her sensitive scalp, guiding the shaver down in a horizontal line.

She extended her hand and stayed while I showed her my scars, the mess, the fear. She lets me come close, let me hide and let me return without shame.

Every time I thought she'd had enough, there was only patience I never felt I'd earned. Serenity, she's the greatest blessing heaven can give to someone like me. I've been such an awful person in times past, I didn't deserve her.

The angels must have celebrated her birth with heralds. I dashed the tears from my eyes with the sleeve of my shirt.

I loved her too much -- too deeply. If she should ever disappear, I'd lose myself to the whoas' of this world.

She stared at herself in the mirror, her hair all gone. I kissed her bare head and she turned bright red.

I started to shave my hair off, giving her a smile and she breaks down, grabbing my arm. As if the soul could bleed an ocean through the eyes, that was the enormity of her sobbing.

I gave her the strength of my shoulder as I removed all the opulent hair from my head.

"Glenn," her voice bends and crumple, "..your hair, you shouldn't -"

I pressed my finger to her lips, shaking my head.

"It's alright, you're not alone."

I gathered everything in an air tight ziplock bag for the donation but before I could put it away, she threw herself around my neck and I held her.
