"DUCK!" I hunched down to avoid the zooming red bottle of ketchup that was hurled across the table. Ash caught with ease as always and glared at the culprit. "Gary, we play soccer not American football. And quit throwing things across the table!" He scolded.

Gary rolled his eyes, "Whatever Ashy-boy. I'm sorry for endangering your wife, I guess."

A chorus of male laughter erupted from our table. I had somehow taken the title of Ash Ketchum's wife. I don't know how but one day I show up to their practice and Gary yells 'It's Mrs Ketchum!' at me and the rest start cheering and chanting his exact words.

"Gary." Ash's voice was laced with an unusual intent to kill and his expression matched it.

"Yes Boss!"

I couldn't tell if Gary was teasing or genuinely terrified when he straightened his posture and did a robotic salute. The silence from the rest of the guys confirmed that it was the latter.

"How many more laps do you want me to add to your training?" Ash asked as he calmly peeled off the tomatoes in him sandwich.

"Um, since you've already added an extra ten to the sixty laps I do and taking to account that I am one of your best players and your closest and best buddy... maybe you are willing to give me one or less." Gary said, attempting to subtly reason with Ash as to why he should be tortured less than he already was.

"Hmm..." Ash hummed thoughtfully. "I actually considered adding another fifteen seeing how you love running your mouth so much."

The silence amongst us broke when the rest of us snorted out our small laughs. We kept silent to see how the rest of the conversation would go though Gary was now sneering at us.

Gary turned back to Ash and gave a saccharine smile that was almost too cringy to look at. "Ashy-boy...hehehe."

"Ew." Ash gagged.

That was the nail in the coffin. We all lost it - bursting out into a loud chorus of laughs which filled the building. We were sure to get the attention from others but who cared. This was too fun to care about other people's judgements.

I sighed and threw my last tube of toothpaste into the trashcan. "I guess I'll have to go buy more."

"More of what?" Ash asked looking away from his textbook.

"Toothpaste. Maybe some snacks as well." I pondered and went to check the cabinet where I kept most of my snacks. There was nothing there but a box of tissues and a newly constructed cobweb on the top corner of the shelf. "What the hell."

A small cough sounded from behind me. "Um...uh... I may have handed some out to some orphans I met."

'Ridiculous.' I angrily thought trying to calm the growing storm inside me.

I exhaled slowly and carefully shut the cabinet, and turned to face the culprit. "Then... you wouldn't mind accompanying me to the store?" I said as calmly as I could.

"Sure I-"

"Bring your wallet. I'm afraid all I can afford is toothpaste." I pulled out a five dollar bill that I had got as change.

"Um...sure." Ash chuckled nervously and went to look for his wallet.

"Damn, Gou. Who knew you could be so scary!" Ash laughed. We had just left the convenience store right down the street from the campus.

I scoffed, "You're only saying that now because you're off the hook."

He turned and looked at me with his signature wide grin. "Of course! I felt like I was holding a ticking time bomb."

"None of these would have happened if you didn't touch my snacks."

"But they were tasty! You have a good taste in snacks."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I looked at him with a questioning look. Was that even a thing? Having a good taste in snacks?

"It means you have a good palate." Ash replied in a matter-of-factly tone.

"Um, sure. 'Cause choosing snacks is the hardest thing in the world." I mused turning away from Ash, hoping he'd leave the conversation at that.

He didn't.

"It is! Do you know how weird the guys tastes are?!"

"I'd rather no-"

"Kiawe has a thing for spice! Every one of his snacks I've tasted end up with me emptying the whole cooler!"

"Ash you're just bad with spice-"

"Hau loves sweets! Don't get me wrong, I love sweets as well but he really likes those filling type of snacks. They get between my teeth and just - arrgghh!" My head snapped to his direction just in time to see his over-exaggerated cringe.

"I think your teeth are just sensitive to sugar-" I was cut off again and by now I just couldn't care anymore so I continued to walk facing forward.

"And Gary! He likes those crunchy snacks. The harder the better as he says..." He pauses. I expected him to continue but he still remained silent.

"Ash?" I looked at him and I let out a loud sigh when I saw the expression of an idiot who was holding in his laugh. "You....you're such a child."

"Ha!"

"Is that really what Gary said or are you just putting words in his mouth?"

Ash turned to me with a mischievous look. "Perhaps a bit of both, I don't know. But it sounds like something that idiot would say." Says the idiot himself.

"Whatever! Stop looking at me like that!" He turns his head away from my judgemental stare. "Look all I'm saying is that you are a good roommate."

"Where did that come from?" I chuckled looking away from him. The campus gates were getting closer.

"Well...I don't know but what I do know is you're the best roommate and I'm sure we'll get along well for the rest of this year."

I stopped walking and so did Ash. Our eyes met. Etched on his face was a genuine smile and eyes that looked at me so fondly.

I sighed, "When you say things like that it makes me think you're obsessed with me or something." I shot him a teasing look and walk off.

"Huh?! Since when? It's always been you obsessing over me!" Ash protested and bumped our shoulders before putting his arm around my shoulder, and pulling me down slightly to meet his height. "But admit it, we're a perfect match."

"Sure." I mumbled, hoping that the heat on my face wasn't what I thought it was.
