Today was the starting day. The Ever Grande Conference. Ash and the group had met some of the contestants.

A ginger boy with a Beldum named Morrison and a taller young man, Tyson, with a Meowth in a hat and boots.

"Well, everyone, this may be tough.. but we worked so hard for this. We won't lose without a fight." Ash says to his pokemon. "We'll do some last-minute training."

After many matches and training sessions over the days. Morrison and Ash had grown close and even helped Beldum evolve into Metang, even if it evolved during his first match, thanks to last-minute training before.

Although the start was rough for the former, he started getting serious.
Even with all of that, his pokemon put up a great fight, but Ash beat him. Even then, Morrison still had a great bond with Ash.

"Sorry, I started as a pansy in the first bit of the battle.." Morrisons says softly. "No one is perfect. But I get where you're coming from. It can be hard chasing your dream when you have to face your friend." Ash says.

"But if you're real friends, you know that you'll be able to chase your dream, even after a battle with each other."

Morrison smiled a bit. "Thanks.. And thanks for all the training. If it weren't for you, Metang wouldn't have been a Metang at all!"

Ash smiled. "You did a lot of the work to help to reach that." He says.

The next day was the final round. Tyson vs. Ash. They started with Metagross and Absol. Type wise, the crown goes to Absol.

The two started clashing Meteor Mashes and Sucker Punches. The two seem to be even in raw power, although in speed, Absol wins.

Absol burns the Metagross with Will-O-Wisp and follows up with a boosted and super effective Hex.

Due to the burn, Metagross' physical power decreases, so it was easier for Absol to tank the attacks from the metallic opponent.

However, one Night Slash managed to finish off Metagross. Not only was it super effective, but it gained a critical hit thanks to both Super Luck and Night Slash having a boosted critical hit rate.

Once the two were withdrawn, Ash lets out Aggron and Tyson let's out Walrein. With type wise, it can go either way.

The two clashed Iron Heads and Ice Fangs ferociously. Then Aggron stood in place as Walrein launched Ice Ball after Ice Ball. All according to plan.

After the last Ice type move, Aggron uses a powerful Metal Burst. The stronger the last hit, the stronger the steel type attack gets. Walrein had a hard time getting up, and Aggron ended the round with Head Smash.

"Good work, Aggron." Ash praised and returned the large rock and steel type. Two down, six to go.

"You did your best, Walrein. We both need to work on training more." Tyson says, returning his pokemon as well.

Ash let out Swampert and Tyson Camerupt. This fight was very one-sided. Then again, fire and ground types are weak against water, so Camerupt was a poor choice against Swampert, who just used Muddy Water.

Now, Tyson sent out the Wicked Pokemon, Shiftry, and Ash sends out the Blaze Pokemon, Blaziken.

"Blaziken is a great choice. It's a fire and fighting type, while Shiftry is a grass and dark type." Brock says. "Not to mention Blaziken is much faster." Molly says.

It was true. Blaziken used Sky Uppercut before Shiftry could use a move. Shiftry then went for Leaf Blade, but Blaziken quickly blocked and attacked both times with Blaze Kicks until Shiftry fainted.

Now, the 5th round had Ash's Sceptile against Tyson's Donphan. Donphan started with Rollout, but Sceptile dodges with Quick Attack and powered up with Swords Dance during the Quick Attack. The rounded ended with a critical and super effective Leaf Blade.

Tyson returned Donphan and let's out his own Sceptile. Ash, however, swapped out his Sceptile for Togetic.

Sceptile shoots out multiple Bullet Seeds, but Togetic dodges it with Aerial Ace and hits Sceptile in the back with the flying type attack.

Togetic uses Metronome, and it ends up becoming Sludge Wave, hitting Sceptile hard and even ending up poisoning the grass type.

Sceptile started charging Solar Beam, though it was a bit woozy from the poison. This gave Togetic the opportunity to finish off the Forest Pokemon with one more Metronome, which turned into Dragon Ascent, a move so far only Rayquaza could learn.

Up next was Tyson's Hariyama and Ash's Eevee. For a while, Ash's pokemon were the ones who kept up with type advantages, but this time, that honor went to Tyson's Hariyama.

Then again, type advantages aren't everything. Hariyama uses Arm Thrust, but Eevee dodges each attack with Quick Attack.

Hariyama was able to land a Thunder Punch and paralyze Eevee. Luckily, Eevee's Sparkly Swirl not only does it deal super effective damage to Hariyama, but it also heals the paralysis.

Eevee uses Dig to dodge an upcoming Focus Punch and make tunnels underground. Eevee emerged just in time because it just used Earthquake.

This attack caused a hole, in which Hariyama fell in. Eevee then attacks Hariyama, which finished the battle with Trump Card.

Now it's the final round. Tyson's Meowth vs. Ash's Pikachu. The two clashed Iron Tail after Iron Tail. The two were equal in strength so far. Meowth and Pikachu then clashed Thunderbolts, still even.

It then uses Assist, which brought out Ice Ball, courtesy of Walrein. Pikachu dodged it with Quick Attack and used Thunderbolt, hitting hard.

The two clashed Fury Swipes and Iron Tails, but the last steel type attack caught Meowth off guard, and the two clashed Iron Tail and Volt Tackles more and more, until Pikachu charged more electricity for one more Volt Tackle.

Once the dust settled, Pikachu was pretty badly scuffed up, mostly from the multiple Volt Tackles, but Meowth was knocked out.

"Meowth is unable to battle! Pikachu wins. The victory goes to Ash!" The referee called. The crowd roared in applause for Ash.

"Well, better luck next time." Tyson says, but walks to Ash. "Congratulations, Ash, Pikachu." He says, shaking Ash's hand.

About two months had passed, and Ash gained the title of Hoenn champion rank trainer, just like in Johto and Kanto, and May competed in the Kanto Grand Festival, but got in the top four.

"Well.. I'll compete in Johto's contest challenge..by myself." May says, then Max looked down.

Ash noticed and figured Max would feel lonely, not traveling with May. But he smiled. "Max, I'm sure Professor Birch will want your help more than ever as an on the field researcher. I know it's hard going on different paths, but you won't be alone." He says to the young boy.

"...Thank you.." He says, smiling a bit. "I'm gonna travel with Ash more." Molly says. "Me too." Brock says. "Let's keep in touch, okay?" The siblings nodded in agreement.

At the pokemon center, Ash had talked to Professors Oak, Elm, and Birch on his next stop. Sinnoh. He then adjusted his team until it had the following.
