I sat at the table with Vic and I was actually eating all my food that he got me. I never really noticed how hungry I was until today.

"Slow down Kells, you choke." He laughed. I smiled and slowed my pace a little.

"Sorry." I said as I swallowed my food. He smiled and continued to eat his food. We both stopped when we heard a voice that sounded very familiar to me and I'm assuming Vic too because of the way he smiled. I pulled my hood up not wanting to be seen by the annoying younger boy.

"What's up big brother!" I heard Mike say as he slapped Vic's hand and plopped down next to me.

"Hey guys." He smiled back.

"Who do we have here?" Mike asked before pulling my hood back. "Hey guys it's little man Kell!" He exclaimed. I rolled my eyes.

"Jesus Christ you're brothers with him." I huffed. Vic looked at me while smiling and nodding.

"Can't pick your siblings." He shrugged. "You got any?" He asked.

"Nope only child." I said quickly, and feeling bad about it too. If only he knew the truth. She's another reason why I'm like this... Yea and it was your fault too. The voice popped in my head but I quickly dissmissed it when Mike started talking.

"Hey it's okay little man! You can be the, uh, new white boy in the family since Vicky here lo- OW Victor you little bitch!" Mike said while holding his knee.

"You keep talking it's the nuts next time and you're white too so don't even start." Vic said before taking a bite of his lunch.

"I'm only half white and so are you!" Mike laughed. That's pretty much how lunch went for the rest of the hour until the bell rang. I sat there quietly eating my food as the rest of them talked.

"We'll see you guys later, we gotta get to gym." Vic said taking mine and his plate to the garbage before leaving.

"You dressing today?" He asked. I shook my head and he frowned. "Why not?" I shrugged not really wanting to explain why. "Okay I take it that's part of the 'you'll tell me when you're ready' deal." He laughed before going in the locker room to change.

I took my rightful place on the bleachers and took out my note book to write since I didn't get to during lunch.

Dear Mark,

I just wanted to say thank you for everything you've done for us. You really are a good man and I hope some day you will work up the nerve to finally ask my mom out. Take her someplace nice and relaxing or somewhere fun.

For God's sake get her drunk! (Just don't do anything stupid or else I'll come down and kick your ass personally.) All I'm saying is that she needs a man like you in her life. Some one that is going to stay and help her though hard times. You know how she gets when it comes to working hard.

I need you to watch her when I'm gone and I want you to remind her everyday that she's not alone and that she has you and that I'm still here and so is she and that we're watching her and we're not going anywhere. Believe me it will be hell for her but in the end she'll pull through. She always does, she's strong like that.

Take care of her Mark, please. I've always thought of you as a father and I'll be damned if I say I didn't love you like one. Love you man take care of my mom.

Love, Kellin.

I closed my book, and this time I made sure to put it in my bag. The rest of the hour I watched Vic and the others play. I watched as Vic would smile as he stole the ball away from some one, and how he would sprint to get the ball back if it was stolen from him. The way his hair whipped back as he ran letting me get a good view of his cute face- wait what? I instantly shook those thoughts from my head not wanting to think of them again.

At last the game ended and all the guys jogged to change and Vic jogged to me.

"Don't think I didn't see you checking me out." He smiled. Heat rushed to my face because I felt embarrassed for getting caught. "Awe you're embarrassed." He teased.

"Stop." I said nudging him a little. He laughed and poked at my cheeks.

"Nah you're cute when you blush." He smiled. "I'll see you after school meet me at the front doors." And with that he ran off the the locker room leaving me there dumbfounded at the fact that he called me cute.
