Y'all thinking of Nico Alone... thinking of his adventures and his knowledge and how he would research extensively and had such a hunger to know, to know, to know.... I think he had the blessing of Athena.
Think about it. He has three days of training in chb. He is alone in the woods with no weapons, no idea how to use his powers, he's ten, and he's crying, running blindly into a monster infested world. How did he get out of that? Knowledge. His mythomagic game taught him about monsters, the only plausible way for him to have beaten them was that he knew what they were and their weaknesses.
I think he learned how to fight from the Old masters. Demigods long dead, with wisdom to pass down, and skills to teach the young son of hades, because the boy asks for it. He asks the dead for answers "What am I?" They do not know- not really- but they can tell him what a child of hades can do.
He learns, and he is powerful. It's not what he wants, but it helps. He ventures far- much more of a traveller than any child of Hermes. He learns language, he learns of cultures, of the future and of the world he doesn't remember.
He finds hidden places the less daring wouldn't venture, and the less clever wouldn't find.
He takes his time, visiting deities long forgotten, he knows they are worth it |not giving people a second thought? that can be dangerous|
Perhaps he is a legacy of some other god. Hypnos? Hermes? Athena? Aphrodite?
They all make sense, in one way or another.
He's just so strange. So much of his story is a mystery to us, and I think that is so important to what makes him Nico di Angelo, because he is a mystery to everyone else.
