Kara remains floating there, having just told Lena her secret identity. Lena is literally the first person she has told her secret to since telling Sam at university all those years ago. Obviously there have been more people that have found out she is Supergirl, or at least an alien, since then, including, J'onn, Winn, and James, but she didn't actually tell any of them her secret. J'onn has known about Kara being an alien ever since she landed on Earth, when he had already taken the place of Hank Henshaw, becoming the head of the DEO. Then James found out about Kara due to Superman, because he is Superman's best friend, and when he moved out to National City Superman told him about his cousin that lived out there. Needless to say, when Kara found out Kal-El had done that, without asking her first, she was very pissed off, but at the time, she was in the middle of starting her company, so she was far too busy to let it annoy her too much. Then as for Winn, he found out about Kara's secret identity because he was a new recruit to the DEO a few weeks after Kara had purchased it, and save it from no longer existing. Kara didn't know Winn prior to then, but once she bought the DEO, she made it a policy that all DEO agents of a certain level can know her secret identity, but as part of their contracts they have an NDA clause, which does far worse things than mean they could be sued, and ruined financially.

So, because Kara hasn't actually had to tell anyone she is Supergirl, or an alien, in years, she had forgotten the feeling of anxiousness, and fear, upon telling someone. The fear and anxiousness simply come from the possibility of the other person rejecting her for being an alien. That is a feeling that Kara was absolutely terrified of when she revealed her truth to Sam in Midvale all those years ago. Right now, that absolute terror is back for Kara, because the idea of Lena rejecting her for being an alien scares her so much. Kara may have only known Lena for a short time now, but the brunette has come to mean a lot to her, in many ways, she does believe she might be her soulmate after all. Kara isn't sure that she would be able to live with Lena rejecting her for being an alien, or Supergirl.

"Lena.... please...... say something." Kara says, nervously, after about a minute of silence now, and Kara just feeling worse and worse. The silence is literally killing Kara due to her anxiousness, and fear of rejection.

Lena just continues to stare at Kara, stunned. Lena knew that obviously she doesn't know everything about the CEO who has been so nice and helpful to her, but she was not expecting this. Actually, the fact that Kara is Supergirl scares her, although not because she is scared of Kara. There is a reason that Lena didn't try and track down Superman, and tell him what Lex was planning to do to him all those years ago. Lena simply did not trust the boy wonder. Lena appreciates that Superman is obviously a hero, and does a lot of good, but the man of steel sees the world in black and white, while Lena sees it in shades of grey. Lena didn't think that Superman would be that well receiving of the news of the illegal things she had done, even if she was an innocent unaware person while it was happening, at least until she was held hostage. So ultimately, Lena decided that she couldn't go to Superman with what Lex had done, not that she had a way to contact him anyway. Lena's thought was just that Lex and Lillian were very unlikely to be able to make another dog like Krypto without her help, and her family knows that. Lena knew that Lex and Lillian would just focus on trying to track her down, rather than continuing their experimentations on more innocent animals. Even though continuing the experiments would make more sense, as Lex and Lillian had nothing to lose by doing that, Lena knew they wouldn't, because it would harm Lex's ego. Lena knew that Lex couldn't continue the experiments, and fail, where she had succeeded. Instead, Lena knew Lex would devote his time and resources to finding her, and then focusing on other projects at Luthor Corp, which were probably just as awful, but she couldn't do anything about them.

So, ultimately, Lena never went to Superman, because she didn't trust what he would do to her, and whether he would turn her over to the police too, and lump her in with her family. So now, with Kara standing before her, having just informed her that she is the girl of steel, the cousin of Superman, Lena is afraid. Lena is afraid of what it means, and of what Kara's intentions really are. Of course, Lena realises how she is being unfair, as Kara is not her cousin, and has done nothing but be nice to her, nicer than anyone she has ever met. But all of Kara's niceness is thrown on its head by the reveal that she is Supergirl. Lena begins to think that maybe Kara has been too nice.
