L let out a tired sigh as soon as his skin meets in contact with his bed. He has been awake for approximately 96 hours and 34 minutes, he genuinely musters not enough energy to pull yet another all-nighter. He was advised to go to sleep, too.

Naomi, sweet, sweet Naomi, gave him a chance to return to their house earlier while she reports his absence. His attendance was compulsory for almost every mission, as there's a possibility that they could expand their soldiers, but Naomi insists that he doesn't have to since this year they have gathered around 4 -official- recruitments, and it was okay to take a break.

"We can't have you running to the ground now, can we?", stated Naomi as she pushed him into his room, encouraging him to take a bath and generally indulge himself in the shower, "Me, Aiber, and Wedy can take it from here. Go to sleep, you look terrible".

While L was glad that he could finally rest his aching limbs, he was still concerned about his workload; as mentioned countless times previously, the number of Devils that has made themselves known has been going haywire, and the cause of such trigger is yet to be solved. There has been no explanation yet as to why these creatures keep expanding at such a rapid pace, and all of the thesis made thus so far has been coldly rejected or simply irrelevant.

Could it be a plague? No. That was the concept of these parasites in the first place; it was a parasite, but there is no actual cause of an individual to extract from it. Saving from Light Yagami himself who has allegedly got the parasite transferred to him by his mother's saliva and skin contact, all of the other soldiers in the special division has no recollection of coming in contact with any other devils prior to their own devilisation.

It's final. God is punishing humanity.

Except L is an atheist, so he doesn't believe in that.

There are many possibilities, yet none of them adds up. All of the theories are rendered useless when there's even one aspect that plagiarised it, so L simply let it slide.

'Maybe a third party...?'

But how? If it is the work of a third party, then how do they achieved such ruckus? The parasite, despite its size, is capable of turning nightmares into reality. A pacifist into genocidal. How are they able to retrieve and made such things artificial?

Were some cases done artificially?

The thought was horrifying enough; someone out there, perhaps a whole organization, has undoubtedly conducted illegal experiments on these creatures so that they could obtain the virus, thus able to control the infected according to their biddings. L couldn't help but to think how someone so cruel could deny someone's rights to both life or die— even he won't stoop that low.

If that is the case, then L swore that he's going to catch them, because how dare they play with humans' lives like that.

L will never forgive them, whoever they are...

It was 7:45 a.m. when Light woke from his slumber, stretching his arms and let this brain process its own consciousness. His surroundings makes themselves known, and the darkness didn't seem so dark anymore. The light outside shines dimly, going through the curtain, illuminating the room in dark, brooding light.

It was then Light realized.

'Oh yeah...', he blinked, 'I'm officially part of the I.D.P now...'.

Yesterday had been pretty eventful, to say the least. It didn't dawn on Light that the group that was handling them tried to compress a week worth of schedule into a single day, and told them that they're going to continue the Orientation on another day as a sudden emergency came into attention, and needed aid immediately.
