Light was startled when a very familiar voice came in, practically screaming his voice in full enthusiasm before he was practically tackled onto his bed.
"LIGHT!!!", Sayu screamed, her eyes swells in pooling, crocodile tears, "I'M GLAD YOU'RE OKAY!!".
Not moments later, Light found himself with a handful of Sayu. "Oof—", he squeaked, as his little sister snuggled against him. Wrapping his arms around her gently, he let out a sigh, "I'm glad that you're okay too, Yu".
They let go of each other and Sayu starts rambling about her experience thus so far.
"The nurses here are all so mean! I told them that I'm okay, that I'm strong enough to meet you! But they won't let me through!", she rambled, eyes furrowed in anger. "But s'all good though, because Miss Naomi and Mister L were there. They help me keep tabs on you", she smiled sheepishly.
Miss Naomi and... who?
Behind Sayu, Light could see Naomi is speaking to another figure who was lingering by the doorway, barely visible to those who are in the room (well, at least from Light's position). He frowned— if that's the person who's been keeping his sister entertained, he would want to at least thank the person. But he figures that the person is probably busy and doesn't have time, or that he values privacy and jad only spend time with Sayu to warn her ahead of time.
He shrugged and left it at that.
"I see that you both are enjoying each other's company", Naomi claimed as she walked in, smiling softly, "Not that I could blame either of you. You were deprived of each other for so long, I don't think I'll be surprised if you suddenly pull a reunion party or something", she chuckles at her own remarks, before turning towards Light.
"How are you these days, Light?".
"Oh! Uhm—", Light gaped, "I'm good. The nurses here are all kind enough to let me walk around, training my muscles to their usual strength, ya' know? The food could be better, but I'm not going to complain. Overall, I'm perfectly okay".
"That's good to know".
Silence...
"Hey... Naomi-san, when will Light and me be discharged?", Sayu asked, breaking the pregnant pause and tension between them, "I personally would love to stay, but I don't think neither I or my brother could afford it! Since both of us are well, we can go home, right?".
Light winced at Sayu's innocent remarks— he was angry that neither Naomi nor the other person told her about their current information, but he could empathize with them. If Sayu knew without having her brother, she'd cry and throw a tantrum; demanding an explanation from Light and no one else, making restraining her even harder. Plus, Light doubt adding more stress would help her heal.
Both sides have a standard. They won't stoop so low in drugging a confused, hurt and innocent little girl...
"Sayu, I—", Light sighed, putting his hands on both sides of Sayu's shoulder, "We... we're not going back there, Sayu. We could never go home now. At least, not on our own...".
"What...", Sayu gaped, looking at her brother, then to Naomi, then back to her brother. "This... this is a joke right? I mean, I'd love to stay, but we can't afford it, Light! I don't want you to work extra hours, leaving me alone! No, Light! Not after what happened!".
Crap, Light thought bitterly as he saw tears pooling at the corner of his sister's eyes. 'I knew this is going to bite me hard on the ass later...'.
"It's not about the money, Sayu-chan", claimed Naomi, putting one of her hands on top of Sayu's left shoulder, "The both of you don't have to worry about your financial state anymore... It's the circumstances that prevent you from leaving".
