Being a pogue and living on the cut was "paradise on earth" if you really think about it. You didn't owe anyone an explanation as to why you did things the way you did.
To Y/N, it was like heaven on earth... especially whenever Mr Heyward's intelligent son was around.
Y/N had been friends with Pope, JJ and John B for as long as she can remember. She felt like they were more of a family to her then her actually family to begin with. Even though, she felt as though John B and JJ were like brothers to her, she felt something else for Pope.
Her feelings have been developing for him over the years ever since he decided to make a scene and distract everyone from looking at her when she got her period in class and bled through her shorts. Since then, her feelings have only began to grow stronger and stronger each day. She didn't see any imperfections when it came to Pope. Even if she did, she would still love him no matter what. It was that unconditional kind of love when it came to him.
However, Pope didn't feel the same back towards her or so he thought...
Then one day, a new member joined the little family they had and her name was Kiara Carrera. The wannabe pogue who was actually a kook. She definitely was a beauty and all three boys quickly decided that she was indeed, the girl they all wanted.
Constantly competing against each other to gain her attention, the boys had to step up from one another every time. 'It was like she was a bottle of water in a desert', Y/N to herself.
Out of nowhere however, Pope began to show interest in Y/N. Constantly doing nice things for her such as grabbing something off the top shelf for her as she couldn't reach or even just tying up her shoe laces when it would come undone when they were out adventuring. Y/N was unsure where these sudden sweet gestures were coming from but didn't think too much into it. She was just finally happy that he was showing interest back.
Then, it all happened way too fast.... in a blink of an eye, and one completely shattered heart later, Y/N wish she had never met Pope Heyward. It turns out that she was a pawn in the game he was playing to win Kiara over. He had gotten the girl he wanted and completely broke the one who loved him with every ounce of her.
So Y/N packed some of belongings into a duffel bag, gathered the money she was saving from her bedside drawer and jumped on the ferry that very night. She was done with Outer Banks and most importantly, him.
Once the group had woken up the next day, they had found the note left on the kitchen bench and it was like a huge wave had completely drown Pope with guilt. Yes, he was happy he finally got Kiara to himself but he just lost his best friend. He wasn't even sure if Kiara was the one he wanted after all.
The thought of never seeing Y/N again haunted his mind every second of every day and then it hit him. It was always her. She was the one he wanted. Scratch that, she was the one he needed. She didn't think him rambling on about bodies and death was boring at all. She even started doing research herself to get a better understanding. She was always there for him no matter how much of an ass he had been to her as his dad made him mad some days. She was the one and now he's worried for his soul as he had lost her for good.
She was good to him.
