Jungkook rolled his eyes in amusement as he drank in Jimin's outward appearance and behaviour. When enlisting Jimin in helping him steal Malia's Dream Journal, he emphasized the importance of the mission and requested Jimin take it as seriously as any of the other jobs that their group of assassins commit.
But he did not expect his hyung to dress himself from head to toe in black and plan to secretly meet him in the wide expanse of the Bangtan Mansion's green garden.
"Really?" Jungkook smiled. "Were the sunglasses necessary? It's not even sunny out today."
Jimin, not enjoying being the center of Jungkook's amusement might as well have thrown the journal at his younger friend. His arms crossed almost instinctively over his chest.
"Watch it! It's still Malia's property." Jungkook scolded, delicately catching the notebook.
Jimin crossed his arms over his chest and smirked.
"Relax, Jungkookie, and be thankful that I did this mission for you... with no questions asked!"
A small smile crept up on Jungkook's face and replaced the spark of irritatation that gleamed in his eyes. He was grateful.
"Thank you, Jiminie hyung. I swear when everything starts making more sense I'll explain why I need this." Jungkook said, lightly raising the journal in the air.
"What's that?" A deep voice asked curiously.
Taehyung, the source of the surprising question, walked up to the two men casually, slugging an arm over a shorter Jimin's shoulders.
"Why are you even standing in the middle of nowhere like this? No one ever comes outside except for Namjoon hyung." Taehyung giggled lightly.
When his other two partners did not return the favour, he stared at them strangely, eyeing the panicked way in which Jungkook tried to hide the small book that he was once flaunting.
"You guys are acting so weird," Taehyung said, nudging Jimin next to him. "Does it have something to do with that notebook?"
Jungkook shook his head with a sense of nonchalance. He did not want to give Taehyung a reason to be anymore suspicious of him and Jimin than he obviously was. Jungkook saw it; the glimmer of fascination that shone when his hyung noticed the book.
He did not like it.
Some nagging feeling inside made Jungkook feel as if he needed to keep as much information away from Taehyung as possible. He hated it; he trusted his hyung.
But he needed to trust himself more, for once.
Taehyung also had conflicting feelings of his own, luring him towards that little book in Jungkook's possession. Something about it was special; he couldn't explain why he thought so.
He could almost feel it.
But he did not ask Jungkook to see the journal; he was already aware of the tensed way in which Jungkook felt but wanted so badly to hide behind a calm demeanour. And so Taehyung smiled and pulled Jimin closer to his body with his arm.
"Well, I was looking for Jiminie," Taehyung smiled, purposefully changing the subject. "Malia is waiting for you in the living room. She just got out of the shower after her training with Jungkook and—"
"Our drama is on!" Jimin exclaimed in realisation. "I'll see you guys later, okay?"
Jimin rushed, sprinting in the direction of the house and his favourite drama that was about to start. Jungkook and Taehyung giggled at their smaller friend's excitement before a silence fell between them.
Jungkook felt uneasy in the company of one of his oldest friends for a reason he could not pinpoint.
She just got out of the shower.
Taehyung's words that referred to the amethyst-eyed Malia floated about in Jungkook's head. Something about Taehyung knowing about Malia being in the shower and the fact that Malia and Taehyung were at a level of closeness that her and Jungkook were not, made Jungkook instinctively feel an emotion he rarely ever felt towards his hyungs; it was undoubtedly anger. Jealousy.
He clenched his jaw.
Taehyung noticed.
"I'm just gonna head back inside, I have to check on Jin-hyung." Taehyung said, pointing over his shoulder and in the direction of the house.
Jungkook nodded his head in understanding.
"Yeah, I need to take a shower myself," Jungkook said.
"I wasn't going to say anything but you smell like a sewer, my friend," Taehyung joked. And the tension evaporated almost immediately.
The two men laughed lightly, an unspoken line of defense still being drawn.
Jungkook held onto the journal in his hand tightly, trying to keep it away from any line of sight; especially Malia's as he was now entering the house. Luckily, the girl was with Jimin in the living room; a place he did not have to walk through if he wanted to go upstairs.
As Jungkook conquered the stairs two at a time, Taehyung watched after him with the same glimmer of fascination as the one from outside.
Taehyung knew what he had to do; he had to read what was in that journal.
