Walking to the door, I could hear the gunshots, beautiful music to my ears. Once inside I made my way to the lowest floor where the self-defense classes are taken.

"Woah you like absolute-" Ryan said, I glared at him to make him shut up.

"You look absolutely delicious. The shower is free if you want to. If I may ask what happened?" He asked with a concerned tone.

"You know the usual Viki wanting attention and Kirill wanting to look cool. Sometimes I just wanna rip their eye sockets out and shove them down their throats." I said while heading towards the shower in the back

Ryan was light skin with grey eyes, curly brown hair, and an average body with a few muscles. He was the first good guy I ever met since we moved back to Russia. We met at a family dinner, I was waitressing and he was looking for alcohol. We got off pretty well. He told me how he worked as a self-defense instructor at a gun range not too far from the house. He offered for me to take lessons for free. I decided why not.

My mom taught me defense, how to shoot guns, arrows, and knives at a very young age. It bothered me how I couldn't play with dolls or go on playdates with the other girls every time I asked why am I doing this. She would simply always say when the time is right I will understand everything she did for me in the past was for my future. At the age of Eighteen, I still never understood. I touched the necklace around my neck at the thought of her, it was a heart with a crown, a crystal was below the crown. Mom said it was from my father to her.

I became an instructor instead of a student since I was better than any other instructor that has been doing it for years. I also got paid, not much but it was worth it.

Coming out of the shower I got into my clothes and tried to dry as much of my hair that I could. Looking into the mirror, I saw my reflection. I had hazel green eyes, my hair stopped below my underarm. My natural hair color was black but I got red because of the fierceness the color gives off. Now my hair was a black and red ombre. Walking out into the room, I met up with Ryan.
"Someone is looking better. I don't know how you can stand them for so long. I would've left the second they started treating me like that."  I stopped walking. Ryan always looked out for me like I was his younger sister but sometimes he would get a little overprotective and it annoyed me.

"It's not as easy as it sounds." I walked past him.

"Yes, it is Annika there beating the crap out of you every time you come here there's a new bruise on our body." He whisper yelled and quickly looked around to make sure no one was listening.

"I care about you and I am not gonna stand here and let them treat you like that all because you're too much of a pussy to get out yourself." I walked up to him.

"It's been nine years now. Am not  dead am I?" I screamed at him. He turned to look another way, obviously upset at what I said. I should be the one who's upset with him.

I walked away not wanting to start up the argument again. I spent the rest of the day sparing. I was so caught up in what I was doing that I didn't realize what time it was.

Walking over to my bag I took the hand-me-down phone I got to see what time it is.

"Shit. Ryan, I gotta go am late." I got up grabbing my things and started running.

"Whatever.” I heard him say but I didn't have time to stop and sort out what was bothering him knowing it was the conversation earlier.

I ran home and went into the small closet, I called a room to put my things down. Hurrying into the kitchen I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw Alyona glaring at me. Alyona was my bitch of a stepmom. She has lovely blond hair that goes above her waistline, brown eyes, and looks very young for her age. She had on a black and white pencil skirt with a black long sleeve blouse. She was holding a glass of wine in her hand.

"You're late, it's fucking nine 0' clock and you haven't made dinner yet. What were you doing so late?" She asked, looking me in the eyes.

"I'm sorry I was at the library." I didn't want to exactly tell her I was at defense lessons. She would see it as a threat. I never knew why.

She stared at me wondering if I was lying or telling the truth. I got pretty good at lying over the years, it was a talent.

"What are you waiting for go make some food you little filth." Walking into the kitchen I let out a relieved sigh and started to prepare the meal.

---

Placing the meal on the table I went back into the kitchen but was stopped by Alyona yelling at me. Breathing in and out trying to calm myself I walked up to her.

"I heard what happened at school today and don't think I will let it pass. He's waiting for you downstairs." She gave me a smirk and walked away.

I slowly walked towards the basement staircase not having much of a choice. I still have my bruises from yesterday.

After three minutes of walking down very slowly, I was grabbed and placed in the corner where I was chained to the wall by the man they paid for specific reasons.
