TWO minutes.

That's how long we have 'till the end of the match. If I don't get this ball to the other side of the court and into the hoop, we loose.

No pressure, Jordyn.

I run, dodging the opposing team players, while dribbling the orange ball. Occasionally, I switch from my left to my right hand to get it away from the other team and I manage to get to the other side of the court.

As I aim for the backboard, I bend my knees and jump slightly when I throw the ball. For a moment, everything seems to be moving in slow motion.

The ball moves incredibly slow to get into the hoop and I swear I could see everyone's elongated reactions to my attempt. I look out into the crowd and scan for my boyfriend, Peter. He promised he'd come to this game to support me, since he failed to turn up the last hundred times I've asked and I'm yet to see him.

Time resumes and the ball whizzes perfectly into the hoop. The buzzing sound from the clock blares, signalling the end of the game. Our side of the crowd erupts into cheers as the cheerleaders start chanting and the marching band begins to play a celebratory song.

"Yes, Jords!" Anvi says and she pulls me into a bear hug. The other girls on my team start to clamour on top of me until all five of us fall onto the ground, laughing like crazy.

I see my coach give me a thumbs up, grinning so hard, I feel like her lips are about to fall off.

The other team's side looks pretty different. Everyone's got a few sympathetic smiles on their faces and others just have their faces planted towards the ground. The players look angry as fuck and they're all shooting glares at me.

Too bad. They'll live.

"You all played so well!" Our coach, Ms Green praises once we get off the court and into the changing rooms. "I'm so proud of all of you guys."

I smile at her and move towards the mirror, trying to fix up my ponytail. Since I'm wearing braids, it feels extremely heavy on my head and I feel the need to re-tie it every two seconds. Getting beads definitely wasn't a smart move.

"Did you see Pete out there?" Maddie, a girl on my team asks.

"No." I shake my head and sigh. "I don't know where he could be."

"This is like the 4th game he's missed." Ja'eda says. "He's lucky he ain't my boyfriend, or I would've dumped his ass for neglect."

I laugh at her comment and have a seat on one of the benches, drinking some water. Lately, he's been acting really funny and not in a good way. He'll be extremely distant with me, never give me straight answers and would always find some excuse to not hang out. According to Anvi, these are all red flags and I should just dump him already.
