Valentine

Every time Kadia packed, I unpacked her stuff. We argued. But it didn't matter. She wasn't going anywhere.

"Valentine!"

"Kadia, you're not leaving."

"You don't have a say."

"Sure, I do."

Kadia leaned her head sideways and gave me a look.

I pulled her to me. "I love you, and no one will take that from me."

Kadia looked into my eyes. I leaned into her and captured her lips. We broke from our kiss.

"Val, not everything works out."

"But it will."

"How do you know?"

"Because I have faith."

Kadia sighed.

"No matter what, I won't let anyone separate us."

Kadia looked into my eyes. I never felt this way about someone. I connected with Kadia on every level.

Romeo came into the bedroom. "I have a plan."

"You have a plan?" I asked.

"Yeah."

I turned to face Romeo and crossed my arms.

"We disguise Leokadia and tell Kayden she ran off. He searches for her, and she gets to stay."

"Kayden is smart and won't buy it."

Rafe entered the room. "I say we throw Romeo under the bus and rat his stupid ass out."

Romeo looked at Rafe. "Excuse you?"

Rafe turned to Romeo. "No, you started this stupid mess. If you didn't mess with Sloane, we wouldn't be in this predicament."

Romeo and Rafe argued.

Pat whistled using his thumb and middle finger. Romeo and Rafe stopped.

"Knock it off. Both your ideas are dumb," Pat said.

"I agree," I said.

"Then what do you suggest?" Romeo asked me.

"Let Ma and Dad handle it." I shrugged.

Marty appeared in the doorway. We turned our heads and looked at him.

"Kayden's here," Marty said.

Kadia and I looked at each other. I took her hand, led her past my brothers and out of the room. They followed us. We came downstairs to find Kayden standing in our living room with Ma and Dad.

Kadia removed her hand from mine and stepped towards Kayden. "I'll pack my stuff. Give me a few minutes."

"There's no need," Kayden said.

"Why? Aren't you coming to take me?"

"No." Kayden shook his head. "I came to inform Tori and Elias that the judge agreed to legal guardianship."

"What?" Ma asked.

Kayden turned to our folks. "My supervisor attended family court, along with your dad. He agreed with the legal guardianship and submitted documents to the court. The judge signed the paperwork, approving for you and Elias to become Leokadia's legal guardians."

"Wait. Does that mean Ma and Dad adopted Leokadia?" Romeo asked.

"No, a legal guardianship differs from adoption. Legal guardians make medical and legal decisions for a minor. They're in charge of the minor's welfare until the minor turns the legal age of eighteen. Unless a minor apply for emancipation, making them a legal adult. Tori and Elias will retain legal rights over Leokadia until she turns eighteen. It also means she gets to stay."
