Leokadia

I grabbed a book from my locker when the girls approached me.

"Leokadia, are you going to prom?" Bailey asked me.

I stopped and stared at them. "Why?"

"Because if you're going, we wanted to know if you could ask Val and his brothers to go."

"I wasn't planning on going."

"Why not?" Rowan asked me.

"Because homecoming ruined the experience for me," I replied.

"Yeah, but you had slim shadette and her stupid sisters' help. I doubt they will attend in day-glo orange," Reese said.

"Okay, not sure why that matters." I shrugged.

"Leokadia, prom is a right of passage. If you're my great-great-grandparents, then you cover yourself in punch," Sage mentioned.

"Your family has strange traditions," I told Sage.

She shrugged.

We started walking to class.

"Leokadia, prom is a time honor tradition where you can tell people to go to hell since you're graduating," Reese said.

"I'm not sure I want to tell people to go to hell. I wouldn't mind dancing," I said.

"Then why not have some fun as the last hurrah?" Rowan asked me.

My friends wouldn't drop the topic of fun, so I agreed to attend. Hopefully, I don't regret my decision.

Rafe, Marty, and I came home after school.

"Why do you want to go to a stupid dance?" Rafe asked me.

Yeah, I mentioned Prom to Rafe and Marty on the way home.

"It's the last dance of high school. Plus, my friends want to go."

Rafe and Marty stopped me.

"Wait. Did you say your friends want to go?" Marty asked me.

Rafe rolled his eyes. "She just said it. Pay attention."

Marty gave Rafe a look.

"The girls wanted me to ask if you would accompany them to prom. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to attend prom."

"Oh, you're going," Marty told me.

I shook my head and went into the kitchen. My friends and the brothers make no sense. They like each other but won't admit it. I guess a little push wouldn't hurt.

Valentine

I finished up for the day, then packed up. I checked with Dad and Owen before I left to make sure I didn't miss anything. After discussing a few things, I headed home.

Twenty minutes later, I arrived home to a heated discussion between my brothers and Kadia. What in the hell?

"What is going on here?" I asked in a raised voice.

Everyone stopped and looked at me.

"We're discussing prom," Rafe said.

"It sounds like arguing," I said.

"Arguing. Discussing. It's all the same thing," Romeo said.

I crossed my arms and gave Romeo an annoyed look.

"Leokadia's friends want us to attend prom with them. Pat and I are for it. Romeo and Rafe, not so much," Marty said.

My eyes shifted from my brothers to Kadia.
