Leokadia

Well, I managed to survive living with the Harper brothers. The past year was a little crazy adjusting to a stable home. After twenty foster homes, I discovered the meaning of family and had to thank someone special.

I knocked on a door, and Kayden glanced up from his desk. I strolled to his desk. "I wanted to thank you."

Kayden leaned back in his desk chair. "For what?"

"You took a chance on me." I shrugged.

Kayden rubbed his chin. "Leokadia, my brother, and I had a chance at a loving home. Our biological parents neglected us and had a substance abuse problem. The statistics of surviving that home life as a black child are slim. You have a chance of following in their footsteps or running the streets. Two men chose to love us and give us a chance."

"I didn't know you have a brother."

Kayden glanced at me as a guy walked over to his desk.

I stared at them in awe. "Wait. You helped Rafe," I told the other guy.

"Leokadia, meet my twin brother, Jayden."

Jayden held out his hand, but I didn't take it. He glanced at me.

I stepped towards him and hugged him, catching him by surprise. "Thank you for helping Rafe."

Jayden hugged me. "You're welcome. That's what family does for each other."

I pulled away from Jayden. "Huh?"

"Leokadia, Elias, and his family are our cousins. Our grandmothers are sisters," Kayden said.

I couldn't help but smile. Kayden and Jayden glanced at each other and smiled.

"I chose Elias and Tori for you because you would receive the love you deserve," Kayden told me.

"You did one better," I mentioned.

They looked at me.

"You gave me a family." I grinned.

Kayden and Jayden chuckled. Kayden rose from his seat, and I hugged, then left. Sometimes, it takes a particular person to find you a unique family.

I smiled as Leokadia left. When you place a child with a family, you pray the family loves the child as their own. Markus and Hayden showed us that biology doesn't make a parent, but love does.

"Are you ready?" Jayden asked me.

"Yeah, give me a minute."

Jayden left the office as I finished the report on my recent visit to a home. A woman called about an abusive situation with her neighbor regarding the children. I lifted the picture of Rowan and Hayes Webb and furrowed my brows.

I picked up the phone and made a call.

Hello?

"You were right."

I suspected but wasn't sure.

"Is everything set for them?"

I filed the paperwork and contacted the college. Everything is set at Saintwood College for this fall.

"Hopefully, this opportunity gives them a chance to find peace."

What happens next?

"We wait until the kids leave for college. Morgan is on stand by."

Good. I'll talk to you later, Kayden.

"Talk to you soon, Patton." I set the receiver in its cradle.

Sometimes, it takes a family to help others, then sometimes, it takes crazy to fight crazy.

I chatted with Bubbles for a while.

"Pat!" Dad said.

I groaned. "What?"

"We need help with setting up for the graduation party!"

"Okay! Be there in a minute!" I finished my conversation with Bubbles and logged off. I came downstairs to help set up for the party.

"How many people did Ma and Dad invite?" Romeo asked, carrying chairs.

"The family," Val said, situating the tables.

"That's a lot of people," Rafe said.

"Well, we have an enormous family," Romeo said.

"I never have kids," Marty said, placing plastic table cloths on the tables.

"You must have sex for that to happen," I said.

My brothers looked at me. I shrugged. Leokadia brought out paper plates and set them on a table.

"Kadia, are your friends coming?" Val asked.

"They said they were coming," Leokadia said.

I stopped what I was doing. Leokadia went back into the house as Val followed her.

"Uh, Pat, you perked up when Leokadia mentioned that her friends were coming to the party," Romeo mentioned.

I looked at Romeo. "What?"

Rafe and Marty moved next to Romeo.

Rafe crossed his arms. "Is there something that you want to tell us?"

"No," I replied.

Marty laid his arm on Rafe's shoulder. "Are you sure?"

"I'm positive." I walked away from my brothers.

"You do realize Pat's lying," Rafe mentioned.

"Hell, yeah, he's lying," I said.

"So, what will we do about it?" Marty asked us.

I turned and faced my brothers. "Let us take care of it." I gestured at Rafe.

Marty's lips curled upward as Rafe smirked. I see college becoming more exciting now.

"Hey, Romeo! Juliet said you sick," Sage said.

I placed my palm on my face and raked it down. My brothers hightailed it out of there. I turned and put my hands on my waist. Sage smirked.

"Shouldn't you rid evil spirits?" I asked Sage.

"Why? I facing Satan, himself."

I groaned and walked away. I didn't need this shit now.

People arrived at the party, including my friends, except they were busy with the brothers. Val introduced me to family members. Don't ask me who everyone is because there was a ton of family.

How does Val keep track of everyone? I need a family tree.

Val's family arrived, including members named Harper, Gray, Shaw, Jones, and Frazier. Val leaned into me. "You seem perplexed."

"You have a huge family."

Val chuckled. "This is only a fraction of them."

My eyes swelled.

"Come on." Val took my hand and introduced me to his aunts and uncles.

"So, you're quintuplets?" I asked his Grammy, aunts, and Uncle.

"Yep," Val's Grammy said.

"And you're married to the Harper family?" I asked.

Val's Grammy, grandpa, aunts, and uncles smiled. Oh, boy.

Something told me that college wouldn't be boring. I couldn't wait.
