Elias

My phone rang at work. I answered it as Nash delivered the DNA results.

Elias, they're a match.

I sighed. "I had a feeling."

I made sure the lab-processed them suitable.

"Thanks, Nash." I hung up and called Tori and Oliver. Neither were happy, but they understood.

I found Val in another section of the house and told him about the results.

"So, what does this mean?" Val asked me.

"It means Leokadia will learn more about her biological family. It doesn't change her living situation."

"God, I hope not."

"You love this girl, don't you?"

"Yeah, I do. Kadia's special to me."

"Val, I can't stop who you love. But I can advise you to be careful. This girl has been through a lot."

"It's not like that. Kadia gets me. We connect on so many levels. I've never met anyone like her. All I want to do is to protect her."

I nodded. If I knew anything about Val, he meant what he said. That's what differed him from his brothers. I still had concerns about the other boys. With the way they were going, you can never tell.

I finished the day and drove home. After arriving home, I booked it to Kadia's room. I flung open the door, startling her. I closed the distance between us, pulled her to me, and kissed her.

"Val," Leokadia said against my lips.

"Shh, give me this moment."

Kadia giggled against my lips, then pulled back.

"I love you."

"Yeah, I love you, too."

"And nothing will change that."

"You're confusing me. What's going on?"

"Dad got the DNA results. Mr. Leland is your grandfather."

"Okay."

I pulled away. "It doesn't worry you?"

"No, should it?"

I placed my hands on my hips. "Casper blew a nut."

"Well, Casper is a special individual."

I gave Kadia an incredulous look.

"I've been through twenty foster homes, endured horrible people, and met my mom. An older man doesn't worry me. Plus, I have a family." Kadia shrugged.

"You're something else."

"I'm me." Kadia grinned.

I chuckled, placed my hands on her face, and kissed her again. I love that about Kadia. She took everything in stride.

Then something smacked me. I pulled back and looked at Kadia. Her brows raised. I glanced at the floor to see snow and twisted to see Rafe and Marty.

"You needed a cool down," Rafe said.

I chased my brothers downstairs and out of the house. I grabbed snow, balled it, and whipped it at them. The snowballs smacked them in the head.

"Damn, Val!" Marty said.

"Don't be a tool!" I said, going back into the house. I swear my brothers will get their heads cracked. I brushed off the snow as someone knocked on the front door. I whipped open the door. "I swear I'm going to beat your asses!" I stopped when I saw Mr. Leland and a woman standing there.
