"Alright class, we have a lot to talk about," the teacher said. "Which is why I'm going to leave what has already begun to be a nightmare and get the heck out of here." The teacher then strode out the door. The class was completely silent.
"Well, that happened," a boy who was sitting at the front said sarcastically. Will felt ready to agree.
This was his first period in this school, and the first thing that happens is the Science teacher seeming to believe they were all demon-spawn and leaving to call an exorcist. Will snorted at the thought, which didn't seem too unrealistic to him. Some kid in the back of class kept throwing paper wads at people out of boredom, and some kids were just idly chatting with their phones out.
"YOU'D BETTER NOT BE ON YOUR PHONES! IT'S AGAINST MY POLICY!" the science teacher from the underworld shouted, bursting back into the room. With some amusement, Will watched from his back corner in the room as the kids who'd had their phones out stuffed their phones in their pockets, a look of terror on their faces.
"But ma'am, you never said-" a blond girl who was at the front of the class started.
"Just listen up!" the teacher said, then sighed, rubbing his forehead like everyone had done something wrong. "You are all going to follow the rules in this class, just... just read the syllabus." He passed back packets of paper to the students, the majority of whom seemed to be wondering what was happening with this man.
Will took one look at the syllabus and groaned. If this was how many rules the teachers at this school had, this was going to be a heck of a school year.

Will had managed to get through the first half of the day, and unlike most kids, he was NOT looking forward to lunch.
Will had come to associate lunch with the chaos of his middle school. And while he'd sometimes liked to see what could happen, getting involved was a real pain.
Back at Will's middle school, he'd had what he liked to call a 'rivalry' with one of the popular groups. They hate each other and antagonized each other. Due to superior numbers and being bigger than he was, these guys tended to win any physical fight.
Which was why Will planned on eating lunch as far away from any popular groups as possible.
He got in the line for lunch, idly wondering why people were looking at their phones in the line when they kept walking into people as they did so (totally not referring to the brunette he saw in front of him) and heard a commotion up ahead.
People were talking up ahead, some of them shouting at someone for holding up the line. Will tried to see what was going on, but because of his height, he couldn't tell...
But then he heard a recognizable shout. "Don't tell me what to do! There are multiple ways to make this food taste better, and I disapprove of the fact that it COULD be made better but it isn't!" Oh no.
"Well, this isn't going to end well," a tall, athletic guy next to Will said.
"No kidding," Will commented. "D'you know her?"
The guy sighed. "Yeah, I guess. Her mom knows my mom, and I can tell that Jenny can feel like getting better at cooking is really important."
Will snorted. "That lines up with just about everything I know."
"So, how do you know the 'Master Chef'?" the guy asked curiously.
"She's my... temporary sister," Will said. "I'm the brother she probably doesn't mention."
The guy said, "Hey, does that mean you're the guy that came in during the summer?"
"Uh, yeah," Will said. He wasn't sure how to feel about other people knowing about him before he knew about them.
"Cool," the guy said. "I'm Horace."
"I'm Will," Will said.
"Do you want to sit with me after we get lunch?" Horace questioned.
"No thanks, I'd rather avoid any popular groups," Will said. Horace definitely seemed like the type of person who would be a popular guy. He definitely had an athletic sort of look.
Horace actually laughed. "Are you talking to me? I usually hang around in the back of the room, I wouldn't even get close to those snobby rich kids!"
Will had to grin at that. "I have a feeling we're going to be great friends."
