"Sorry for dragging you off, you seemed like you were hitting it off with that blondie," Gilan said, walking toward the back of the restaurant with Will.
Will wasn't sure how to take this. "I was not."
"Sure," Gilan said. "Anyhow, let's blow this place." He reached a door, looking left and right, before stepping out and leading Will into a hallway.
"Uh, nope!" Will said.
Gilan sighed. "I know what you're thinking. And no, I'm not going to blow up the place. You just overheard something that confused you, which I understand. But you are also going to need to understand that under no circumstances can you tell your friends about this." He opened another door further down that led outside.
"...Why?" Will asked, his mind already spinning with conspiracy theories. But he got the feeling that wandering off with this guy was not a good idea.
"My dad would totally kill me if I blew our cover again. Now. As the one person not authorized to know about the mission, I'm going to have to ask you to forget what you heard me saying over the phone-"
"Wait, mission?!" Will nearly exclaimed. Gilan clapped a hand over his mouth.
"You didn't hear that part of the conversation?! Oh, no, Halt's going to kill me," Gilan muttered. He took a deep breath, removed his hand, and said, "Okay, so what did you hear?"
"You were saying you were going to 'take care of it'," Will said. Gilan felt extremely sus to him, no matter how interesting his fun attitude may have seemed in detention.
Gilan groaned. "So you basically heard the part of the conversation that mattered the least. Great, just great. I'm really sorry about that."
"Wait, what?" Will asked. "But what is the mission, though? And why is this such a big secret?"
"Those are questions that could get you in some serious trouble," someone said. Will jumped and turned to see an unknown person standing there.
"...Shoot," Gilan said. "Will, run!" He grabbed Will's arm and took off, dragging him out the door and out into the street.
"Come back here! You are in so much trouble!" the unknown shouted. Will had enough sense to run faster. It wasn't that he was worried about being in trouble, he was more focused on the grip Gilan had on his arm that felt like it could dislocate his elbow if he wasn't fast enough.
Unfortunately, Gilan appeared to take this as an incentive to run faster. Running down the sidewalk, Will could not believe this wasn't gathering attention. Wasn't anybody wondering about a strange guy chasing down two teenagers?
"Is he your dad or something?" Will snarked.
"No, and be glad he isn't," Gilan said, in a tone that actually seemed to carry seriousness and danger. Gilan was TOTALLY a mafia member! And had he actually taken that Will's comment seriously?!
"Come on, come on, come on," Gilan muttered. Then suddenly he jumped right out into the middle of traffic. Will would forever deny the noise that escaped his throat as their feet hit the gravel and he was forced to run through oncoming traffic.
But apparently, they weren't even going to the other side. While the guy in pursuit was shouting threats from behind them on the sidewalk, Gilan seemed to be trying to remove Will's arm from his socket. A sudden jerk added to this belief as Will found himself being tugged to holding onto the side of a truck, just barely getting a grip and finding himself forced to hang on as he tried not to think about the wheels spinning fast, a shiver going down his spine.
"It's alright, calm down," Gilan said.
"I'm calm!" Will insisted, voice cracking embarrassingly.
"I've done this before," Gilan reassured (looking way too relaxed for someone holding onto the side of a moving vehicle). "You'll get used to it; it's an easy way to get around."
