"I can't believe it!" Horace exclaimed.
"And hello to you, too," Will said wryly, making Horace scowl.
"I can't believe we got into the same class!" Horace said.
"Well... I mean, it's just history..." Will said.
"And wait, did you know about this ahead of time?" Horace asked suspiciously.
Will debated on telling Horace that he had shown Will his schedule during lunch, but decided against it. "It's a secret."
Horace rolled his eyes and was about to say something when the teacher said, "Alright, I can see that this is going to be a problem, Mister Altman. Miss Mainwaring, perhaps you can stop talking with Miss King and switch with him?"
"Oh, of course," a pretty, tall, blond girl said, blushing in embarrassment at being called out. She whispered something to her friend, a shorter blond girl, before walking over.
Horace looked at Will. "Please don't make me go over there. I knew about that girl in middle school, she's terrifying," Horace whispered.
"Well, I'm not going then, thank you for making that decision for me," Will said, giving Horace a pat on the shoulder.
"You just wait," Horace said, though there was a smile he couldn't help having that made an appearance on his face before he left. Horace wasn't able to hold onto fights for too long, in any case.
The blond girl sat down next to Will while the history teacher started talking.
"I'm Alyss Mainwaring," she whispered, putting a hand out. "Nice to meet you."
"I'm Will Treaty," Will whispered back, shaking her hand. "It's good to meet you, too."
"If that whispering keeps up, you will go to detention!" the teacher declared.
"Well, I guess it's detention then," Will muttered, and Alyss giggled.
"That's enough! Mr. Treaty, I expect you at the detention after school," the teacher said with a glare. Will internally sighed, wishing that he hadn't used his sarcasm and joked. How was he going to tell his foster family about this?
After all, who gets detention on their first day?
