"Congrats you two," I heard almost every person say to Minnie and Ric as they came up to greet them.
Their wedding was beyond perfect. I cried as I watched Minnie get ready and Ric cried when she walked her last steps as his fiance. Their love was beyond anything I'd ever seen. They both glowed with commitment and their energy was radiating all over the place. My heart swelled during the ceremony and I even saw Harry crack a smile when they said their vows.
Now, we were at the reception and the last dance was beginning to happen. Harry was singing with Charles and Daphne playing with him. I hadn't seen much of Daphne this weekend, but I had a feeling I didn't see her on purpose. After high school, she unfriended me on Facebook and on everything else. I wasn't sure if it was Harry making her do that or what, but it happened and it honestly was pretty irritating.
Alaric then took over for Minnie's father and they continued rocking back and forth for the rest of the song. A new song came on and I felt my shoulder tapped by someone. Ian stood to my side and I laughed finding him as the culprit.
"Madam, would you like a dance?" he spoke in an awful French accent.
"I would love to, Sir," I curtsied and took his hand as he led me to the floor to slow dance.
We laughed, well mostly he made me laugh as he cracked jokes and poked fun at some of the people at the wedding, and he danced with me like a polite gentlemen.
I glanced over to my right as I felt someone approaching and saw Harry eyeing Ian over my shoulder.
"You putrid, vile brother," Ian handed me off to Harry and I felt my face go all warm again.
"You look lovely," He took one of my hands in his and placed his other hand around my waist.
"Thank you. I like you in a suit, you know?" I smirked up at him feeling a bit of champagne get to my head.
"Are you drunk again Ms. Steele?" he smiled back down at me with a flirty look in his eyes.
"No," I rolled my eyes and stepped closer to him. "Not this time. I think the spirit is in the air and it's making my brain not think and my lips just speak in turn."
He chuckled and I felt my body shiver with lust. "I understand. I even decided I would dance with you, which we both know is really hard for me to do."
"Well you're not stepping on my feet yet," I smiled with him.
"In due time, I suppose," he sighed and intertwined our fingers together. "You know I'd kiss you if things weren't so confusing between us."
"I wouldn't let you," I whispered back to him as the music began to fade.
"I think you would," he said with a straight face and I blinked away from his stare.
"Thank you for the dance," I let go of him and backed away to the bar.
I took calming breaths as I took aching steps towards the drinks.
"Callie wait!" I heard his voice begin to register in my brain while I started to take off my shoes. The last one slipped off and I frowned over at him as he inched closer until he was covering me from the rest of the crowd in our own little corner. Before I knew what he was doing, my face was cupped with his hands and my lips were glossed with his. There wasn't anything else, only his lips placed on mine for a few seconds.
"No," my eyes filled with unwelcome tears. The rejection of mine hit him hard, his face tore away from me and I saw the complete helpless look in his face. A look that I would be replaying over and over in my head until I found something else to stop it. "I'm sorry, Harry, but we just can't."
