The flight to Paris wasn't as awful as I presumed it would be. I didn't have to sit next to Adam and I was forever grateful for the universe being on my side. Once I was seated in first class, I shut my eyes and drifted into sleep until we landed. Then, the universe turned on me and I had to ride in a car back to the hotel with Adam. He wasn't too talkative, but I could tell he was just getting started in our short weekend of adventure.
"Why am I in Paris? Do you know?" I watched the bell boy put my luggage on a trolley.
"Because Lorraine wanted you here. Easy enough reason," he eyed me from over his uplifted nose. I hated people that thought they were better than the help. There was no room for them on this Earth and I certainly wouldn't put my hand out for them if they were falling off a bridge.
I raised my brows and walked up to my room with my luggage giving the bell hop a tip on his way out of my room. It was nice, nicer than even I've grown accustomed to traveling with Alaric these past four or five years.
A knock sounded on my door just as I was getting ready to put pj's on. I walked to it and saw Adam, Lorraine, and a few other of their fellow co-workers gathered outside my door. What the heck is going on?
"Callie we've been waiting on you in the lobby for the past ten minutes. We have an event to go to," Lorraine sounded displeased and I twisted my head to meet eyes with Adam.
"Sorry, I must have been distracted," I lied when I saw Adam parade down the hallway as if he didn't miss giving me the invite.
I shuffled through my room and grabbed my purse before heading out the door with Lorraine and her staff.
The cars pulled us into an immaculate home that looked like a picture you would only see in a magazine. Like the amazed tourist I was, I pulled out my iPhone to take a picture of the architecture. This building had to have been built early Renaissance period, definitely not before and especially not after.
Apparently it was a home to a French heiress that wanted to cater to Lorraine a fancy evening. When we walked in, I could have been the laughing stock of the evening. Even the waiters and floating waiters were dressed nicer than I. Way to start my weekend in Paris...the most fashionable city in the world.
Our night was spent floating around the party meeting new faces and sipping from crystal champagne flutes. I told Adam I was getting a bit heavy eyed when I looked at my clock seeing it as four in the morning. We took a car back to the hotel with a couple other guests and I crashed until eight when I had to get up and take a shower for the new day.
All of the staff had breakfast together in the restuaraunt on the first level. Lorraine asked me to sit next to her and I gave her a warm smile when I accepted the seat. I wasn't too hungry but I had a biscuit to hold me over until lunch time.
"Now Callie, tell us about yourself. I like to know my employees and you currently are a mystery," she had an omelette made that was decorated with chives and diced tomatoes.
"I don't know. Um, I'm from the U.S., well Florida, specifically. I went to NYU in search of a Creative Writing degree but ended up being a double major in Creative Writing and Public Relations. I graduated in May and now I'm here in Paris with great company," I fiddled with my hands. There was one thing I hated most in the world and it was being put on the spot without any previous warning or inclination of question and answer briefing.
"That's certainly not all, I would hope," Lorraine chuckled and took a sip of her water the most lady like way I had ever seen.
"Well what would you like to know?" I sunk into the back of my chair and made a silly sad face. "I have two brothers and a sister that was adopted."
