Chapter 28: Fifty Shades of Recap

"Is Teddy in trouble?" I'm sitting on my bed and playing with my fingers. Ava is pacing back and forth and that's making me more nervous. "I don't know, Phoebe." She bites her thumb nail. Teddy is with the adults downstairs, and it looked like he was about to get scolded. I don't think Daddy likes it when Teddy uses his phone on the table. Just like mom. But I feel that it has to do with something else. Maybe Teddy did something! "Oh no!" I put my hands on my ears. Ava jumps and turns to me. "What if Teddy did something horrible!"
-"No, no. That can't be it. What is it about Adam that Uncle Christian hates so much?" She mumbles and continues to pace. Who's Adam? "Can we go see?"
- "No! We can get in trouble. Let's just stay here and then we'll ask Ted later, okay?" She sits with me and wraps an arm around me. I nod and lean my head on her.

Ava is so nice now. I remember she wasn't nice when I first met her. She was very bratty. I think when she was scolded by Teddy, she changed for the better. Like knocking some sense into her. The other day, I told her what her name meant. I told her it was lating for life, but the biblical meaning was immorality. She wasn't too happy about that one.

Ava lays down on my bed and sighs. "Phoebe?"
-"Yes?" I stand and reach for Ella on the shelf. "Does Ted have a girlfriend back in Denver?" she asks. I tilt my head. "A girlfriend? He has many!" I open my arms and her head shoots to me. I giggle. "I'm kidding. Alot of girls like Teddy. But he doesn't like any of them. I heard his friend call him a homo once. I think that means he likes being home alone."
- "Phoebe!" She laughs loudly. "Don't say that. It's a mean word." I gasp underneath my hands. "I'm sorry!" I've never said a bad word before. I hope I don't get in trouble.

"So then, Ted is completely single." She sighs. "He likes Sophie, though." I glance at Ava and she looks in pain. "Yeah. I know. But Sophie has a boyfriend."
- "Which is why he's being mean to Sophie. But I think that's unfair to Sophie. He can't blame her for being in love right?" Ava gapes at me. "Yes, you're- you're right." She says unbelievably.

It's been so long. Ava is asleep in my bed and I'm playing with Ella. Gail washed Ella's white dress for me, so now it's very bright, I combed her brown hair and I put it in a braid. She looks pretty like that. But I'm bored now, and I want to see what happened to Teddy.

I stand and tiptoe towards the door. Ava is snoring on my bed. I open the door and quietly close it.

The hallways are always so wide and big. I feel like I live in a castle. I have Ella by the hand and my other hand over my mouth so I don't breathe too hard. I reach the balcony and look down stairs. I hear a door close in the distance, and a phone ringing. "Fuck." I hear a voice whisper downstairs. He said a bad word!

Dad shows up from the left wing and quickly walks to his office. "What the fuck do you want!" I hear him hiss and he closes the door behind him. I quickly run downstairs and tiptoe to his office. The big wooden door is cold against my ear.

"Are you behind all of this? I'm not involving the police, Elena, I'll find you and I'll personally kill you with my bare fucking hands!" I gasp and cover my mouth. "I mean it! I could've killed you that night years ago, I should've killed you!"

Daddy is a... killer?

"What do you know about the fucker Hyde's son? ...Bullshit! You're all bullshit! Elena, stay your god damned distance from my family or you'll never see the light of day again!" I hear an object being flung to the door and I jump so far, I fall to my side and squeal.

I hear a loud gasp and the door opens widely. Dad looks alarmed when he sees me on the floor. I see his phone completely broken on the floor. "Sweetie!" He reaches for me but I crawl away. "No!" I stand and run upstairs and leave Ella behind.
