I am not throwin' away my shot
I am not throwin' away my shot
Hey yo, I'm just like my country
I'm young, scrappy and hungry
And I'm not throwin' away my shot
"You are quite skinny, Hamilton," Madison noted carefully, noticing how the uniform the man wore was practically hanging off his frame. Hamilton stayed silent.
I'ma get a scholarship to King's College
I probably shouldn't brag, but dang, I amaze and astonish
Washington raised an eyebrow at Hamilton who looked sheepish.
The problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish
I gotta holler just to be heard
With every word, I drop knowledge
True, Madison and Jefferson thought.
I'm a diamond in the rough, a shiny piece of coal
Tryna reach my goal my power of speech, unimpeachable
Only nineteen but my mind is older
These New York City streets get colder, I shoulder
Every burden, every disadvantage
I have learned to manage, I don't have a gun to brandish
I walk these streets famished
"They're not wrong," Hamilton murmured, hoping that no one had heard him but by the looks on the faces of his friends and General, they had.
The plan is to fan this spark into a flame
But damn, it's getting dark, so let me spell out my name
I am the A-L-E-X-A-N-D-E-R we are meant to be
"Why would you need to spell out your name?" Eliza asked.
"Probably a metaphor," Al noted as he leant into Jay slightly. "Hamilton wants to be able to spark a flame in people, whether that be a flame of hope or a flame of confidence. Either way, he just wants to ignite something in the people around him like he had on Nevis with the letter to his father describing the hurricane." Eliza nodded as they all focused on the screen once more.
A colony that runs independently
Meanwhile, Britain keeps shittin' on us endlessly
Essentially, they tax us relentlessly
Then King George turns around, runs a spendin' spree
He ain't ever gonna set hs descendants free
So there will be a revolution in this century
Enter me,
"Hamilton?" Burr chuckled with a raised eyebrow whilst Hamilton blushed.
He says in parentheses
"Ah, good," Burr nodded whilst Hamilton cleared his throat, trying to recollect himself.
Don't be shocked when your history book mentions me
I will lay down my life if it sets us free
Washington, Mulligan, Lafayette, Laurens, and Burr glanced at Hamilton to see him nodding along. Washington placed a hand on the man's shoulder before wrapping his arm around the man and pulling him slightly closer. He considered this man his own, as if he were his child, so why wouldn't he be protective of him? Hamilton allowed his General to pull him closer, knowing he saw him as a son. In truth, Hamilton did see Washington as a father figure he so desperately needed but never wanted to admit it to anyone but himself. So that's how he kept it.
Eventually, you'll see my ascendancy
And I am not throwin' away my shot
I am not throwin' away my shot
Hey yo, I'm just like my country
I'm young, scrappy and hungry
And I'm not throwin' away my shot
I am not throwin' away my shot
I am not throwin' away my shot
"Again?" Jefferson groaned whilst Aspen chuckled.
Hey yo, I'm just like my country
I'm young, scrappy and hungry
And I'm not throwin' away my shot
It's time to take a shot
I dream of life without a monarchy
The unrest in France will lead to anarchy?
Anarchy, how you say, how you, oh, anarchy?
