Everyone bowed their heads in remembrance to those who had died in their time. Jefferson and Madison couldn't help but glance over at Burr and Hamilton, wondering how their friendship turned sour so quickly.

I do have something to lose, Hamilton thought to himself as he glanced over to the older version of his son before looking down at the younger version of his wife. I have my family that I could lose.

"Shit," Hamilton said immediately, believing he had said it in his head and not out loud. Everyone was silent, trying to understand what he meant. Es, who somewhat knew of Hamilton's childhood, felt a wave of sympathy wash over her as she snuggled into the man's side. Hamilton, out of instinct, wrapped his arms around the girl.

Hamilton doesn't hesitate

So I can survive, Hamilton thought as Es moved so that she could rest her head on his chest, a feeling of fatigue washing over her. So my family can survive.

Hamilton leaned backwards, one arm keeping Es secured against his chest whilst his other arm went behind Laurens and gave Burr's shoulder a gentle squeeze. Burr turned and smiled at the man, his hand moving up to give Hamilton's a squeeze back. Removing his hand from Burr's shoulder, the auburn-haired man wrapped both his arms around Es to keep her secured against him.
