They had all calmed down as the next notes of the second number started.
1776
New York CityPardon me.
Are you Aaron Burr, sir?Oh no, Burr thought as he held his head in his hands. He remembered this.
That depends. Who's asking?
"A bit cryptic, eh, Burr?" Laurens chuckled.
Oh, well, sure, sir
I'm Alexander Hamilton, I'm at your service, sir
I have been looking for youI'm getting nervous
As anyone would, Washington thought fondly.
Sir...
I heard your name at Princeton.
I was seeking an accelerated course of study
When I got sort of out of sorts with a buddy of yours.
I may have punched him. It's a blur, sir.
He handles the financials? You punched the bursar.
Yes!
"Really, son?" Washington asked, eyebrow raised.
"Notcha son," grumbled Hamilton.
I wanted to do what you did.
Graduate in two, then join the revolution.
He looked at me like I was stupid, I'm not stupid.Madison was slightly surprised when Jefferson didn't give off a witty quip.
So how'd you do it? How'd you graduate so fast?
It was my parents' dying wish before they passed
You're an orphan. Of course! I'm an orphan
God, I wish there was a war"Why would you wish for a war?" Es asked. Before Hamilton could explain, the next line played.
Then we could prove that we're worth more than anyone bargained for
"Oh, I get it!" Es said, getting excited that she understood. "Since you're both orphans, you're not taken as seriously as those who still have their parents. Since most orphans during that time would be left on the streets or placed in poor care, it makes sense you want to prove yourselves to guarantee your futures." For a second, everyone in the room from the 1700s-1800s saw a snippet of the Esperanza they knew. "Right?"
"You're right on the money, angel," Jefferson nodded, a soft smirk on his face as Es smiled at him. "You catch on fast."
"I only have my mother, so I tend to catch on fast nowadays so I can help her." Es explained, looking down at her hands as she tried to fight back the memories that threatened to bombard her. Mulligan noticed, reaching across Lafayette to give Es' hand a gentle squeeze. Jefferson felt his heart break a little. Even in this era, death from an illness was unavoidable and unfortunately it had affected Esperanza twice, once in their time and again in her time.
Can I buy you a drink?
That would be nice
While we're talking
Let me offer you some free advice
Talk lessWhat?
Smile more
Ha
"You still haven't taken my advice," Burr deadpanned whilst Hamilton sheepishly grinned at him.
Don't let them know what you're against or what you're for
You can't be serious
You wanna get ahead?
Yes
Fools who run their mouths off wind up dead
Ay, yo, yo, yo, yo, yo!
What time is it?Showtime!
Like I said...
"Was that foreshadowing?" Laurens asked. Aspen nodded.
Showtime! Showtime! Yo!
I'm John Laurens in the place to be!
Two pints o' Sam Adams, but I'm workin' on three!
Those redcoats don't want it with me
'Cause I will pop chick-a pop these cops till I'm free!"Pop chick-a pop?" Martha asked.
"It's just a term we use in this term."
"Ah, okay."
Oui oui, mon ami, je m'appelle Lafayette!
The Lancelot of the revolutionary set!
I came from afar just to say "Bonsoir!"
Tell the King "Casse toi!" Who's the best? C'est moi!"Was my English really that bad?" asked Lafayette, appalled.
"Yeah," Mulligan nodded. "But it's gotten better!"
Brrrah, braaah! I am Hercules Mulligan
Up in it, lovin' it, yes I heard ya mother said "Come again?" (Ayy)
Lock up ya daughters and horses, of course
It's hard to have intercourse over four sets of corsets (wow)"Eww," Jay and Al screwed their noses up at the image that appeared in their minds.
No more sex, pour me another brew, son!
Let's raise a couple more...
To the revolution!Well, if it ain't the prodigy of Princeton college!
Aaron Burr!
Oh god, please no, Burr begged but he already knew it was coming.
Give us a verse, drop some knowledge!
Good luck with that: you're takin' a stand
You spit. I'm 'a sit. We'll see where we land (Boooo)Burr, the revolution's imminent
What do you stall for?If you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?
Ooh
Who you? Who you? Who are you?Ooh, who is this kid?
What's he gonna do?Before anyone could say anything, the next song started almost immediately.
