A A R O N
I've never been one for tuxes. They have always been too expensive and I've never had a reason to ever wear one. I never went to junior prom, I never went to any of the homecomings. I've never been to a wedding or funeral, except my mother's but that was when I was seven.
Jordan hoots as Ryan straightens out my tie, Mason is quick to slap him upside the head. Ryan is lending me one of his suits he uses whenever his father needs him at a business meeting or wedding for his cousins. Ryan's family was massive, meaning he had plenty of social events he had to dress up for.
"My man, he looks all grown up," Ryan wipes a fake tear from his cheek. Jordan comes up behind him, pretending to sob as they hug. Me and Mason look at our idiot friends with an amused face.
"Well, they're dramatic," Mason sighs, walking next to them as he looks up and down my outfit. "You look good, Aaron."
I roll out my shoulders, pretending to fix my tie with a somewhat cocky grin on my face. "Thank you, Mas. I really do look nice in a suit, don't I?"
"Nah," Ryan waves me off, moving away from Jordan. "You could never look as amazing as I do in that suit."
"I'm not so sure about that, Ryan," Mrs. Taylor (Kim) walks into the room with Mason's father (Alan.) Jordan's father isn't close behind them, Mr. Taylor (Kyle) is shaking a hand through his hair.
All of my friends' parents were having some sort of night out at a bar while Mason, Jordan and Ryan all sat in Jordan's house. I would be at Lindsey's mothers fashion show and I'm not really sure what I have planned after
I bow, "thank you, Kim."
She does a courtesy back while Kyle wraps an arm around her. I see Jordan physically sigh. His parents were disgustingly in love, meaning morning kisses, small romantic gestures that just got on his nerves and dinner dates in their kitchen.
Kyle and Alan went to school together and have been best friends since their freshman year. Kim was a transfer student in Kyle's second year at university and Meg -Mason's mother- worked at the same coffee shop Alan did when he first moved back home.
Meg had committed suicide when Mason was five and his little brother, Logan was three. Meg had fallen into a bad depression after her parents' passing that led to other mental health disorders. Alan had to raise Mason and Logan all alone after that while being a head doctor at our local hospital. Mason mostly raised his brother and helped him with bullying Logan had started to experience after coming out as transgender when he was thirteen, which was only three years ago.
There has been once or twice where Mason comes through Ryan's house with cracked knuckles and his younger brother crying or yelling at him. Mason didn't know when to quit fighting other peoples battles sometimes, and that was his downfall a lot of times. He knows it, and he tries his best to let his brother fend off the transphobic jerks but sometimes they just say the wrong word or hit Logan and it just sets him off.
