Chapter 8

Amethyst

I looked back to see why Violet had stopped. A SandWing stood in her way. It was Desert! And Violet was crouching in fear! Curiously I followed them secretly into an empty cave. 

"What do you know?" Desert growled, stepping closer to Violet. I forced myself to stay in one place though I longed to help poor Violet.

"W-w-what are you talking about?" Violet asked. "You know." Desert said advancing until she towered over Violet. That was it.

"Hey!" I yelled jumping out from from my hiding spot. Desert spun around. She was obviously surprised that she hadn't noticed me. "Amethyst, stay out of this." Violet croaked out. "No. Whatever happens we're in this together. Because that's what friends do." I say. Violet managed a weak smile.

"If it isn't the weak little NightWing. Powerless and helpless. Stupidly standing up for her so called friend." Desert said. I stepped back, I had momentarily forgotten about her. "Hey! Don't say that!" Violet said. 

"Oh, shut up." Desert snapped at her, barley looking her. Violet stepped back, hurt. Anger bubbled inside me.

"Let's get out of here, Violet." I say, grabbing my friends arm. "You really think you're gonna get away that easily?" Desert said. "What are you gonna do about it?" I snap. Desert blocks the way out here tail poised to attack. I gulp, remembering the damage and pain it could inflict. Desert saw and smiled.

"Psst. Violet, right now would be a good time to use your venom!" I whisper to Violet. "B-b-but, we weren't trained to use it on other dragons!" She whispered back. "How about you look like you're about to use your venom?" I suggest. "Good idea!"

Violet open her jaws wide and a red color spread through her scales. Desert stepped back. Obviously afraid of the venom. "There's no need for venom, little RainWing." Desert said smoothly. "You don't know that." Violet said advancing. Violet was great at acting!

"Ahem, why aren't you all in class?" A voice came from behind us. Violet froze. So did Desert. We all turned around to see Qibli. "Ohhhh. Yeah...about that. Um, Desert wanted to show us this really cool place." I lie. "Oh, yeah." Desert said, going along with my lie and then shooting glares at me.

"I'm sure she did." Qibli said. He narrowed his eyes at Desert. Does he know something we don't? "Okay," he said looking at me. "I'll let you go today, but next time Desert show your friends 'cool places' during lunch."

"Alright," I say, looking down. "Desert, come with me." Qibli said. "This isn't over." Desert growled, glaring at me and Violet. 

"I think it is." I say.
