Desert
All Desert's life she wanted to impress her adoptive father. She thought if she could impress him it would fill the hole in her heart left by her mother. So when she had the chance to do a mission for him, she took it.
"I don't think it's a secret about what's going on." Qibli said. I shot up. Did he know her real purpose about why she was here?
"You're trying to make friends!" Qibli said. I let out my breath. Maybe Qibli wasn't as smart as the scrolls said. "Oh, yes, yes." I lie.
"Well, dragging dragons into a abandoned cave when they're supposed to be in class in not a good way to start making friends." Qibli said. Well duh. "Here's a guide. I made in myself."
I looked at a very battered scroll. "Wow. Um thanks." I said. I took the scroll from his talons and started edging away. It was very uncomfortable being inside the crapped cave.
"Oh, and Desert, I worried. You aren't putting that much effort in you schoolwork." He held up my essay about IceWings and their special features. All I had scratched down was:
IceWings are a shiny tribe. They live in the Ice Kingdom. Their queen is Queen Snowfall. They are very spiky and have sharp claws.
It wasn't my fault I didn't listen to Turtle drone on about every dragon tribe! I have more important matters!
"Yeah, that. I didn't have enough time." I say. "Right," Qibli narrowed his eyes. "Desert I want you to come to my cave every Friday after school, so we can discuss about your week's schoolwork." Qibli said. "Okay, sure, fine." I said and walked out of the cave.
By the time I made it to my dorm to drop off my 'friendship guide' the last class was over. "Great," I grumbled and sat down on my rock ledge.
"Um, Desert? You awake?" A voice asked. I grudgingly got up. It was Falcon, that fidgety SkyWing that liked the SeaWing. "What?" I growled, annoyed at being disturbed.
"I have your homework." Falcon said, handing me a stack of papers. "UGH. Really?" I said. "Um," Falcon said his tail swishing nervously. "If you want I can help you. I mean you missed those classes..."
"Nah, it's fine." I say. "Well, I guess I should get going." Falcon said, and then he disappeared out the tunnel. I looked down at the homework. Might as well do Turtle's first. His was always the boringest. Today we had to write our opinion about the dragonet prophecy. With a sigh, I got down to work.
It was pretty late when I finished up my homework and had eaten. Most of the other dragonets had gone to sleep or were doing some late night reading and studying. Violet still hadn't come back. She's probably avoiding me. And that's just fine, as long as she doesn't mess anything up.
Once I had checked and double checked that everyone was asleep. I made my move. I creeped out of my dorm cave carefully stepping over Mudfly's tail. Do any of them have manners? I walked quietly to a remote underground lake. I looked both ways before taking out my bracelet. I was being extra cautious after the Violet incident.
"Father?" I whispered into the stone. "Desert." he answered. "Report."
"Well, my plans have been foiled for a little bit, but-" I began. "A little bit? This needs to be perfect." Father said sharply. "I know. But here's the good part, because of that little incident. I was able to infect one of those 'teachers'." I explained.
"Perfect. Which one?" Father asked. "Qibli." I answered. "Ah, the smart one. It would be quite an advantage to have him on our side." Father said. "I plan on getting Winter next." I said.
"Good Luck."
