Leigh-Ann

"What's your name?" The man in a bright white lab coat flashes a light into my eyes.

I squint turning my face away.

"Ma'am I'll need you to talk. Can you do that for me?"

He's stopped flashing the light and now stands near me with a clipboard in his hand.

The name tage on his coat says Dr Smith.

Why the hell am I in a hospital?

I nod at the man and he gives me an encouraging smile.

"Firstly, I'll like you to tell me your name"

"Uh"

I crack my brain and try to remember.

Ann?... Ark?

Finally it comes to me easily.

"L-Leigh-Ann Dark" my throat is dry and I immediately start to cough.

"Here, drink this"

The doctor hands me a glass of water and I greedily gulp it all down. The clear liquid suddenly soothing my throat.

When Dr Smith sees that I'm fine he asks the next question.

"How old are you Mrs Leigh-Ann Dark?"

Again, it takes a while for me to remember.

"Erm I think I'm 19. No I've already turned 20. I'm 20." My voice still hoarse.

He frowns a bit but moves to the next question.

"What year is it?"

That's an easy one.

"It's the year 2016"

"Hmm" the doctor writes down everything I say.

"Uh Dr Smith?"

He looks up from his clipboard.

"Who was the young lady that was here before? She seemed to know me" I drop my brows confused.

"She's a friend of yours." He simply says.

A friend of mine? Where's Jes?

Did I drink myself into a coma at my birthday party yesterday or the fuck is going on?

After finishing whatever he was writing, he turns his full attention to me.

"Mrs Leigh-Ann. I've got bad news to tell you"

My heart drops to my stomach and my palms get sweaty.

"You answered most of my questions incorrectly. Your name isn't Leigh-Ann Dark, well not anymore. You are Mrs Leigh-Ann Dovine. You aren't 20 but actually 27 and it's the year 2021. Not 2016"

My eyes widen at what he just said.

"I'm sorry to inform you that you've got amnesia."

I'm silent. Still unable to understand what is happening.

I'm 27. It's 2021.

How?

"I'll let your family see you now."

He leaves but only a few seconds pass before the door opens again and oh isn't that a crowd.

I look at all the unfamiliar faces and immediately my mood is lifted when I spot two familiar ones.
