"Arg!" I groan covering my eyes from the sunlight streaming through the curtains my mom just threw open.
"Get up sleepy heads" she says in this overly-joyful voice.
Mom is a morning person and I don't understand how I'm her daughter because I hate mornings.
Particularly this morning and the hangover isn't really helping my mood.
"Mom hangover please keep it down"
I seriously shouldn't have come to my parents' from France. I should have gone straight to my apartment to avoid all this.
"I'll make you some herbal tea if you get up. Tania you too, get up" mom goes over to her yanking the blankets off her.
"I'm up!" she groans getting up.
"What time is it?" I ask going to brush my teeth.
"2pm!" Mom says as she leaves the room.
One hour later after taking a shower, I'm seated at the table having brunch.
Mom and Tania are at it again with their gossiping and I try not to pay attention to them.
Why am I even back in New York?
"Leigh-Ann your dad said to meet him at the office at 4pm sharp" mom says.
I still don't know the reason dad asked me to travel all the way back here.
I'm technically still on holiday and I'm not supposed to be at the office until Monday.
"Okay"
I finish up with my lunch and head back upstairs to get ready.
At exactly 15:55pm, I'm at Dark Enterprises. I love to be prompt, a trait I got from my dad.
"Hey Roselle" I greet the receptionist as I enter.
"Good day Ms Leigh-Ann. Mr Dark asked me to tell you that he had an emergency meeting at Dovine Internationals and that he's really sorry for the inconvenience"
"Oh um thank you" I say and walk out of the building towards my car.
I'm a bit annoyed but I brush the feeling aside.
I won't let this rain on my parade.
"Tom, I'd like to go to the mall please"
"Sure ma'am"
I take out my phone immediately remembering to call Trey.
It rings a couple of times then goes to voicemail.
Weird.
We get to the mall and I exit the car. Gateway Mall is one of my favorite places.
I do a bit of window shopping not really in the mood to buy things.
Entering Rossini's, I place my order and sit at a table by myself.
Sad?
I know.
I'd have asked Tom to join me but it would have been awkward. Besides I think he would enjoy staying in the car than to be tied window shopping with me.
My food arrives and I dig in. Only when my plate is half full that I remember what Roselle said.
Had an emergency meeting at Dovine Internationals.
That name sounds so familiar but I just can put my finger on where I've heard it before.
My phone rings, snapping me out of my thoughts.
