As the sun began to set, the sky turned a beautiful pinkish red. On the beach the two blondes were making conversation.

"Okay so where are you from?" Caspar asked with his usual goofy smile.

"I'm from California," K.C laughed.

"No fooling? Isn't that where all those celebrities and musicians are?" Caspar's eyes sparkled.

K.C giggled and shook her head. " My town is kinda small so not that many celebrities visit."

"Hmm. Oh what about your parents?" Caspar wondered. " You live with them?"

"Well I lived with my dad, and my mom is always leaving for her business trips. She's the manager for a wildlife federation and my dad owns a restaurant. "

Caspar's stomach growled. "That explains where you learned to cook. Your great at it!" He laughed.

K.C blushed. " What about your parents? I never heard about them?"

Caspar looked at his shoes and put his hands in his pockets. K.C felt the atmosphere change as she quickly said, " you don't have to answer that... It's none of my business..."

Caspar shook his head. " It's fine. I mean it's only fair that I answer at least one of your questions right?"

K.C nodded. " Anyway, my mom was a art critic. She always attended those fancy galleries and stuff. I hated those. My dad.. My dad was the CEO of this huge company."

K.C felt something was off. "Wait you said 'was'. Past tense? Did something happen?"

Caspar nodded. "My parents died ten years ago. I was only 9 years old. Not like I was alone though, I mostly lived with my older brother anyway. My parents were never home, so I never knew them"

"I'm sorry..." K.C sniffed as some tears fell out of her eyes.

"A-Are you crying?!" Caspar panicked. "Don't cry! I'm sorry, I-I'm fine see?"

Caspar did a huge grin, trying to cheer up K.C.

K.C just cried more. "B-But it's so sad, if my parents died i would just....just.." K.C buried her face in her hands. Caspar put his hands through his spiky hair.

"S-Shit, what do I do?" Caspar tried to think about how he could cheer K.C up. He finally got a idea as he ran near a nearby stand.

The boy came back holding to ice cream cones nicely topped with sprinkles and chocolate syrup.

"Here you go!" He handed a cone to K.C. She sniffled as she wiped her face with her jacket sleeve.

"Ice cream? Why are you giving me this?"

"Because it always cheers people up!" Caspar exclaimed as he took a huge bite out if his cone.

"Thanks..." K.C. lightly smiled as she tasted the frozen treat.

"Feel better?" Caspar said concerned.

K.C nodded, making Caspar smile in accomplishment. The two continued walking across the beach toward the university in silence as they ate their ice cream.

When they reached the university's gated entrance, K.C noticed a green jeep parked by the curb. Caspar quickly ran toward it as she saw him talk to whomever was in the vehicle.

She continued to lick her ice cream as Caspar pointed at her and face the driver again. Who was he talking to? Caspar motioned the driver to wait as he ran back toward K.C.

"Sorry my friend is here to pick me up. I'll see you around okay? Text me sometime!"

Caspar quickly took her phone and put his number in the contacts. The boy waved as he ran toward the jeep, hopped in, and drove away.
