Chapter 20

K.C woke up the next morning, as the sun shone through her curtains. Today was nice and sunny but the blonde didn't feel motivated whatsoever. The fight that happened yesterday still rang in her head. The reality of it all was that Caspar told her to leave him alone. She couldn't blame him. She should've told him the truth, then maybe they wouldn't have fought,

Trent had texted her, along with some friends but K.C wasn't interested as she lay in bed. She felt a pain in her chest as those words kept repeating in her head. She let out a long sigh as she threw the blankets over her head.

Suddenly there was a knock on her door. K.C just ignored it. She didn't feel like talking to anyone right now.

"K.C? Hey K.C..." A muffled voice rang behind the front door.

"Go away! I'm not in the mood!" She yelled.

"Hey I know you're in there K.C! It's Gray, let me in!'

K.C sighed as she threw the covers off her and stepped out of bed. The girl looked through the peep hole to see Gray in the hallway alone. The door was unlocked as K.C opened it.

"What do you want?" She mumbled as Gray looked at her.

"Let me in." He said as he just walked in and sat on the couch.

"This is my house you know..." The girl whined shutting the door behind her.

"So when were you gonna tell Caspar about your threatening messages?" Gray said getting to the point.

"Caspar told you I'm guessing?" K.C stated.

Gray shook his head. "I've always known."

K.C's eyes widened. "How did yo-"

"I saw your phone on the floor when you fell asleep on the couch and I carried you to your room. When I picked it up, it vibrated and the screen showed the message." Gray explained. "I didn't say anything because I thought I'd let you tell us when you were ready to."

K.C looked at the ground. " I didn't want you guys to get involved in my problems. So I kept it to myself. Now Caspar hates me and-"

"He doesn't hate you." Gray interrupted. "He won't talk to anybody right now but I've known him long enough to know why. He's mad because you didn't trust him as his friend. Caspar always wants to help his friends. The fact that you didn't tell him made him feel like you didn't trust him."

K.C nodded. "I didn't know..."

"I guess he thought your relationship was something more." Gray sighed. "And I'm guessing that guy that Caspar was talking about wasn't your boyfriend after all?"

K.C quickly shook her head. "N-No! We're just friends! Swear!"

Gray put his hands behind his head as he laid back on the couch cushion. "Then you have nothing to worry about. Let Caspar cool down for a while. I bet he'll come around. After all this is all a big misunderstanding right?"

K.C nodded. "Yeah.."

"Alright then!" Gray clapped. " I'm expecting you guys to make up soon. That's all I wanted to say. See yah later." he waved as he began to walk out the door.

"Wait!" K.C said. "Why do you care so much about me and Caspar? I mean you usually never come to my house or anything like that."

Gray laughed. "That's because I haven't seen Caspar this happy for a long time. You're all he talks about now; you know. Just take care if him K.C ok?"

The man walked out the door and shut it behind him, leaving K.C alone again in her apartment.

The girl smiled. 'Caspar is lucky to have a friend like him.'

Gray was right. Caspar had to cool down and she should too. K.C would apologize to him when Caspar was ready. After that K.C went to get ready and took a shower. As she got out he began getting dressed and began drying her hair. K.C wrapped the towel around her neck as she turned on her new laptop that was mailed to her yesterday night. Apparently the university provided the necessary technology for the students there.

K.C signed in and went into the internet. She needed to search something. Something thats been in her mind for a while now.

In the search bar K.C typed in 'Atlas & Corp'. Soon tons of results popped up on the screen, many of them just described what the company was about and the 'change of the future' crap that caught no interest. She clicked on one of the links that showed its history. The article appeared as she skimmed through it.

'Founding father Charleston D. Lee, responsible for the creation of ATLAS & COMPANY. Married Kara Hartman and had a son, Graham Charleston Lee. The company stood for 30 yrs. until a major incident occurred causing the downfall of the company and unfortunate death of the founder. His successor to be named.'

K.C went back to the search engine. Something wasn't right. She searched 'Graham Charleston Lee' and another article appeared.

'The new successor to ATLAS & COMPANY. From the rubble of what was his father's company he has turned it around to a new light. He dedicates his success to his dear mother and father. As the only child, Graham..'

K.C stopped at the two words glaring her in the face. 'Only child' thats not possible. Caspar Lee. Why wasn't Caspar Lee mentioned in anything? She searched everything she could think of. Many other articles similar to the others popped up but no results of the name 'Caspar Lee'. K.C looked up the incident next and found a police report.

"Case 901: the involvement of Charleston D. Lee. A full scale investigation had been filed and managed. 4 fatalities have been reported but the names will not be submitted due to privacy reasons. 2 severe injuries have been sighted so far. The rest is of security purposes."

Fatalities? K.C assumed the first was the founder in which he was deceased, but the other three? The injured ones too? For such a fatal incident there were only 6 people in injury or dead? K.C continued to glare at the screen, her fingers typing nonstop.

She searched the fatalities and a memorial page appeared. K.C clicked on the link and read the dedication. "To those who have left us, but never ceased to change our world." - Atlas.

She read the list.

2. Rain Marshall

3. Daniel Marshall

The last words literally made her heart stop.
