aftermath
it was everything I wanted yet everything I didn't need,
it provided me solace yet
the silence that came after was too much for me,
roses were red
grass green
before we said goodbye
we were strangers that tap danced in the wind
carrying our emotions with ease
yet the aftermath left me gasping for air
and tears that turned to dried up leaves,
when you said you wanted my heart
i didn't think you'd mean it literally.
i was never good at math
so i never calculated the outcome
i thought that if i took a leap of faith we'd
bask in each others ambience forever
but
your touch was what i craved yet it left painful bruises here and there
when you said you'd punch the pain away
i didn't think you'd mean it literally
you were my escape
yet everyday a queen you slept on
and I'm not talking about your mattresses but me,
we were sunshine and rainbows before
yet the aftermath of our love
left nothing to show that
there was once life.
you were everything I wanted
but didn't need
the aftermath of roses
left blood stains on the floor
