When Raoul left there was a frightening silence around the room. I was searching for words to cheer Christine up; she seemed rather despondent. But before I got an idea what to say, the sound void was filled with a sad voice coming from the floor:

"Father never plays with me. Doesn't he love me?"

Both Christine and I looked down at Gustave, who was now the saddest person in the room. Not being given any attention from his own father was definitelly the biggest problem in the eyes of such a boy as him. Christine rushed over to him and laid a hand on his head.

"Oh, darling."

And before I knew it, Christine started to sing. The melody brought comfort and a sense of safety. And Christine's voice... was as always enchanting.

"Love's a curious thing
It often comes disguised
Look at love the wrong way
It goes unrecognized"

The lyrics were just the sweetest, and if there was one person in the whole world, who could say something about love, well, it was her.

"So look with your heart
And not with your eyes
The heart understands
The heart never lies"

I didn't feel like standing to the side in the scene, so I also walked over to them and sat on the floor near Gustave.

"Believe what it feels
And trust what it shows
Look with your heart
The heart always knows"

Gustave glanced at me as I took the lead in singing, but his eyes quickly wandered back to his mother, who continued:

"Love is not always beautiful"

She gave him a tweak on his nose and he smiled sweetly at her little, playful teasing game.

"Not at the start...
So open your arms
And close your eyes tight
Look with your heart
And when it finds love
Your heart will be right."

Gustave, feeling sleepy, climbed over to where Christine was sitting and laid his head on her lap. His head was turned from her face and now I was in his field of vision, so I sung to him again:

"Learn from someone, who knows"

I looked at Christine; The same way she was always looking at me at any mention of John.

"Make sure you don't forget."

"Love you misunderstand
Is love that you'll regret..."

In her eyes I could see exactly the emotion, that she mentioned. Something was bothering her and I thought, that I knew what could it be. While she had her eyes locked on me and I was trying to decipher her expression, we heard another voice, Gustave's:

"Look with your heart
And not with your eyes
The heart can't be fooled"

He sat up and looked at Christine, who responded:

"The heart is too wise."

"Forget what you think" Gustave continued.

"Ignore what you hear." I added.

"Look with your heart
It always sees clear" We finished all together.

"Love is not always beautiful"

Gustave kept on singing alone, and did the same to Christine, as she did when she was singing, to which she sweetly laughed in response. I looked with amusement at their sweet, little duet.
